Product description

The white glass pharmaceutical bottle with a white lotion pump is a ready-made set for small quantities of facial cosmetics that need to be dispensed precisely and without finger contact with the contents. It is particularly suitable for serums, eye creams and light emulsions, that is, products of which only a small amount is used at a time. With a nominal volume of 15 ml, it is also a good choice for test samples of formulations, small homemade gifts or a travel size of a favourite cream.

White glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which is useful for formulations with vegetable oils, vitamins or other light-sensitive active ingredients. It also hides the colour of the contents, so a slightly yellowish emulsion or a darker extract does not show in the finished product. The pump with a dip tube draws out the contents without opening the bottle, which limits exposure of the contents to air and contaminants.

What the set is suitable for

  • Serums and fluids – liquid to medium-thick textures pass through the dip tube and the nozzle of the pump without difficulty and are dispensed in small amounts.
  • Eye creams – lighter emulsions where a small dose and hygienic dispensing are valued.
  • Facial creams and emulsions – with thicker textures, check that the pump draws up the contents. Very thick creams and anhydrous balms are not suitable for a pump.
  • Samples and homemade gifts – a small pack for trying out a formulation or for giving away without using up a lot of raw materials.

How to use the set

One press of the pump releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. One to two presses are usually enough for a serum or an eye cream, and more for a facial cream depending on the texture. The dip tube of the pump is supplied longer than the height of the bottle, so that it can also be used with taller packaging with the same neck type.

Before fitting, shorten the tube with a sharp knife or scissors so that its end reaches just above the bottom of the bottle. A tube that is too long will bend when the pump is screwed on and the pump will not draw up the contents, while one that is too short will leave an unused residue at the bottom.

Before filling for the first time, we recommend washing the bottle, disinfecting it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water, or with an alcohol solution, and leave it to drip dry.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the product parameters. The difference between them provides a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump.

Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is filled completely, the dip tube of the pump forces part of the contents out and the set may not seal well.

Good to know

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Both the bottle and the pump have an EU declaration of conformity. The combination of glass and a polypropylene pump is common for both water-based and oil-based formulations. Where the contents have a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend testing how the plastic parts of the pump behave on one sample before filling the entire batch.

Both the bottle and the pump can be reused. Residues of an oil-based formulation in the tube are harder to remove, so allow for more thorough rinsing when changing the contents.

Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine the bottle with a different closure of your own, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation. For recycling, the glass bottle belongs in glass and the plastic pump in plastics, so separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white 15 ml glass pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white glass transmits less light than clear glass and therefore protects the contents better from its effects. It is suitable for serums and emulsions with vegetable oils, vitamins or extracts, which lose effectiveness or change colour more quickly in light. The disadvantage is that you cannot see how much of the contents remains.
How much of the contents does the white 18 mm lotion pump release per press?
One press releases approximately 0.14 ml. For a serum or an eye cream, one to two presses are usually enough for one application. The value is indicative and depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thick creams may be dispensed in smaller amounts or may not be drawn up by the pump at all.
Is the lotion pump also suitable for thick creams and balms?
The pump is not suitable for very thick creams and anhydrous balms. A pump with a dip tube works best with liquid to medium-thick textures that can be drawn up. For a thicker emulsion, we recommend filling one test bottle and checking that the pump dispenses the contents without interruption.
Why is the dip tube of the pump longer than the bottle?
The tube is supplied in a length for taller packaging and is shortened before use according to the height of the bottle. A correctly shortened tube reaches just above the bottom. If it is longer, it bends when the pump is screwed on and the pump does not draw up the contents. A sharp knife or scissors is enough to shorten it, and the cut should be straight.
Can I reuse the glass pharmaceutical bottle with the pump?
Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be reused after cleaning. Wash the glass, disinfect it with alcohol and leave it to dry. Rinse the pump with warm water by pumping it several times and leave it to drip dry. After oil-based products, rinsing is more demanding. If the previous contents differed significantly from the new ones, we recommend using a new pump instead.
