Product description

Ready-made set of a brown glass dropper bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml and a white frosted dropper. Suitable wherever the contents are dispensed drop by drop – from facial and oil serums through blends of vegetable and essential oils and tinctures to concentrates of active ingredients and test samples from small batches.

Brown glass filters light, thereby helping to slow down the oxidation of sensitive ingredients such as vegetable oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils or vitamins. The white frosted finish looks clean and pairs well with minimalist labels, so the set works as retail packaging as well as packaging for your own homemade cosmetics.

Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The bottle on its own also holds a certificate for direct food contact, but the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Key benefits

  • Light protection – brown glass transmits significantly less light than clear glass, which is an advantage for oils, essential oils and active ingredients sensitive to oxidation.
  • Drop-by-drop dispensing – the silicone bulb and glass tube of the dropper allow you to draw up and measure out small amounts precisely, which you will appreciate with serums and concentrates applied a few drops at a time.
  • Glass with no interaction with the contents – glass does not react with oils, alcohol or most cosmetic ingredients, making it suitable for essential oils and alcohol-based tinctures, which can soften some plastics.
  • Hygienic application – the contents are neither scooped out with a finger nor poured through the neck, reducing the risk of introducing contaminants into the product.
  • Small volume for test batches – 30 ml is a practical size for testing a new formulation, for customer samples or for products that are used drop by drop and last longer.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is intended for in normal filling. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them provides a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which pushes some of the contents upward when screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Both values are listed in the product parameters.

Fill the bottle only to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The glass tube of the dropper, once fitted, pushes some of the contents upward, and an overfilled bottle will overflow through the thread and contaminate it.

When filling a new formulation for the first time, fill one bottle, fit the dropper and check that the contents do not leak through the thread and that the level is not too high. Adjust the filling volume for the entire batch based on the result.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial serums on water and oil bases – the dropper dispenses liquid to mildly viscous products applied drop by drop to the face or décolleté area.
  • Blends of oils and essential oils – brown glass protects from light and does not react with concentrated fragrance ingredients.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based extracts – alcohol does not harm glass and the dropper allows precise dosing into water or a formulation.
  • Concentrates of active ingredients – for example solutions that are added to creams in small amounts and require protection from light.
  • Oils for beard, hair and cuticles – products where a few drops are applied directly to the skin or hair.

The dropper is not suitable for thick creams, high-viscosity gels or products with undissolved particles that could clog the glass tube.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Bottles and droppers are supplied as new packaging, not sterile. Before filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Rinse the glass tube of the dropper in the same way, disinfect the silicone bulb on the outside and allow the inside of the tube to dry so that residual water does not dilute anhydrous contents.

Dropper behaviour with different contents. Aqueous and alcohol-based solutions are drawn up easily and drip quickly. Oils and more viscous serums are drawn up more slowly and the drops are larger, so "one drop" will have a different volume for oil than for an aqueous solution. With viscous serums, check that the dropper draws up the contents within a reasonable time.

Repeated use. Glass can be washed and used again. When reusing, replace or thoroughly clean the dropper, especially if it previously contained oil. Oil can leave residue in the silicone bulb and affect the scent of new contents.

Glass and heat. The bottle withstands normal filling temperatures, but sudden temperature changes can damage glass. Allow hot phases to cool before filling and do not fill cold bottles with hot contents.

Concentrated essential oils and solvents. Glass withstands them without issue. The silicone bulb and plastic thread of the dropper are suitable for normal cosmetic concentrations. With neat undiluted essential oils or solvents, check the dropper's behaviour in the specific formulation, for example whether the bulb softens over time.

Labelling. Brown glass with a white dropper pairs well with both white and transparent labels.

Closures. The set includes a dropper. If you need a different type of closure, select by the neck type stated in the parameters; ready-made combinations of the bottle with other closures are available in the Handymade range. With your own combination, verify the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.

Recycling. The bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper is made of several materials (plastic, silicone, glass), so separate it from the bottle before recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does a brown glass dropper bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass filters light and thereby slows down the oxidation of light-sensitive ingredients. It is therefore suitable for vegetable oils, essential oils, vitamins and serums with active ingredients that degrade in light. It does not provide complete protection, so store the packaging out of direct sunlight regardless.
Can a glass dropper bottle be used for food?
No, the set with dropper is intended for cosmetics as a whole. The glass bottle on its own holds a certificate for direct food contact, but the dropper does not, so we do not recommend the set for food use. Both components are suitable for cosmetic products and are declared for this purpose.
How many ml should be filled into a 30 ml dropper bottle?
Fill to the nominal volume, i.e. 30 ml, not to the brim. The total volume of the bottle up to the neck is slightly larger and the difference serves as a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents will overflow through the thread once the dropper is fitted.
Is the dropper suitable for oil serums and essential oils?
Yes, both the glass tube of the dropper and the brown glass of the bottle are suitable for oils and essential oils. Oils are drawn up more slowly than aqueous solutions and the drops are larger, which should be taken into account when dosing. With neat essential oils, check whether the silicone bulb changes its properties over time.
How to prepare a glass dropper bottle before first filling?
Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Rinse the glass tube of the dropper with the same solution and allow to dry, disinfect the bulb on the outside. Water residue in the tube could dilute anhydrous contents or introduce moisture into an oil serum.
Can a glass dropper bottle be reused?
Yes, glass can be washed, disinfected and refilled. When reusing, replace or thoroughly clean the dropper, as the silicone bulb can retain residue from the previous contents and its scent. Check the thread of the bottle for damage before refilling.
