Product description

Glass bottle, vial, white cap with dropper, 50 ml is a ready-made complete set for dispensing liquid products drop by drop: facial and hair oils, oil-based serums, essential oil blends or tinctures. Brown glass protects the contents from light, which is particularly appreciated for ingredients sensitive to oxidation. The dropper in the neck allows you to draw exactly as much product as you need at any given moment, without pouring and without finger contact with the contents.

The set consists of three parts that fit together without any additional adjustment: a glass vial, a transparent plastic dropper inserted into the neck and a white plastic cap that closes the bottle. The 50 ml volume is suitable for products dispensed in small amounts and consumed over a period of several weeks to months.

How to work with the set

After filling the bottle, the dropper is pressed into the neck, where it is held by its own elasticity and simultaneously narrows the outlet opening. When the bottle is tilted or turned upside down, the contents flow out drop by drop. The speed depends on the viscosity of the product: thin oils and alcoholic tinctures drip quickly, thicker oils and serums more slowly. The cap screws onto the neck thread over the dropper and closes the bottle between uses.

This dispensing method is straightforward, but does not allow drawing a larger amount at once. It is therefore suitable where the product is applied directly to the palm or skin in a few drops, not where larger doses need to be measured out.

Suitable especially for

  • Facial and hair oils – drop-by-drop dispensing corresponds to the typical use of a few drops per application, and brown glass slows down light-induced changes in oils.
  • Essential oil blends – glass is resistant to concentrated essential oils and the dropper enables precise dosing into a diffuser, carrier oil or bath.
  • Tinctures and alcoholic extracts – glass does not react with ethanol and does not discolour the contents; the brown colour protects light-sensitive botanical ingredients.
  • Oil serums and active concentrates – small packaging and dark glass are suitable for products with a higher proportion of sensitive active ingredients.

For water-based tonics or hydrolats that are applied in larger amounts, a spray bottle is more practical. The dropper set is intended for products used in small quantities.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is designed for standard filling, and this is the basis on which the packaging is labelled and sold. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the dropper, which submerges into the contents when inserted into the neck, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The exact values of both volumes can be found in the product parameters.

When filling, leave a free space in the neck at least as long as the dropper. If the bottle is filled to the brim, pressing in the dropper will force the contents out and contaminate the thread, which impairs the cap seal.

Good to know

Contact with cosmetics and food. All three parts of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. A certificate for direct contact with food is held separately only by the glass bottle. The dropper and cap do not have such a declaration, so we do not recommend the set as a whole for food use.

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing the bottle and plastic parts before use, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allowing them to dry completely. Residual water in the neck or in the dropper can spoil an anhydrous oil-based product.

Glass and heat. Glass tolerates heated contents but is sensitive to sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot oil into a cold bottle and do not cool a filled bottle rapidly, as it may crack.

Plastic parts and concentrated substances. The dropper is made of polypropylene and the cap of polyethylene. With common cosmetic oils, serums and diluted blends, problems are rarely encountered. With undiluted essential oils, especially citrus ones, or with solvents, we recommend checking whether the plastic softens, deforms or transfers its odour to the contents after prolonged contact.

The tightness of the set depends on the dropper being properly pressed in and the cap being fully tightened. Before sending a filled product to a customer or before travelling, we recommend turning the bottle upside down and leaving it to stand for a few minutes to verify the seal.

Repeated use. The bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. The dropper may deform slightly when removed from the neck and may seal less well as a result; for repeated filling it is therefore safer to use a new one.

Label. The cylindrical shape of the vial allows a wrap-around label to be applied along the circumference.

Closures. Other closures with the same neck type, listed in the parameters, and further ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Recycling. Once used up, the glass bottle belongs in the glass recycling bin, and the plastic dropper and cap in the plastics bin.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown dropper bottle protect its contents from light?
Yes, brown glass lets through less light than clear glass, thereby slowing down oxidation and the loss of efficacy of light-sensitive ingredients. It is not a complete barrier, however, so we recommend storing the bottle away from direct sunlight. Compared to clear glass, it provides better protection for oils, essential oils and botanical extracts.
Is the 50 ml glass dropper bottle suitable for water-based products?
It is suitable; glass is resistant to both water-based and alcoholic contents. However, a water-based product flows out of the dropper quickly due to its low viscosity, so drop-by-drop dosing is less precise than with oils. A spray bottle is therefore more suitable for tonics and hydrolats. The dropper is better suited for tinctures and concentrates dispensed in small amounts.
Can I fill the dropper bottle with pure essential oils?
For the glass bottle itself this is not a problem, as glass does not react with essential oils. The plastic dropper and cap are made of polypropylene and polyethylene, which hold up well with common blends. With undiluted essential oils, especially citrus ones, we recommend testing whether the plastic softens or absorbs the scent over time. When selling such products, it is advisable to carry out a stability test in the finished packaging.
How is the dropper bottle filled and why not to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, leaving a free space in the neck. When the dropper is pressed into the neck it submerges into the contents, and the liquid also expands when warm. Without the allowance, the liquid would overflow when closing and contaminate the thread. The total volume to the brim is therefore larger than the nominal volume and serves as an allowance, not as a filling volume.
Can the glass dropper bottle be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be refilled after thorough washing, disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and complete drying. The dropper may deform slightly when removed from the neck and may then seal less well, so we recommend replacing it with a new one for repeated filling. The cap is reused after washing.
Is this set suitable for food, for example for home-made oils?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. A certificate for direct contact with food is held separately only by the glass bottle; the plastic dropper and cap do not have such a declaration. If you need packaging for food use, choose a bottle with a closure whose suitability for food contact is stated in the parameters.
