Product description

Glass bottle, vial, white cap with dropper insert, 30 ml is a ready-made complete set for dropper dispensing of liquid preparations. It consists of a brown glass vial with a nominal volume of 30 ml, a plastic dropper insert fitted into the neck, and a white screw cap. The brown glass reduces light transmission, making this set particularly suitable for facial serums, oil blends, tinctures and concentrates with essential oils that lose efficacy or change scent with prolonged light exposure. The dropper insert always releases only a small amount, so the set is used wherever the preparation is dispensed drop by drop, not poured.

What the set is suitable for

The set is intended for preparations with low to medium viscosity that need to flow slowly and in a controlled manner:

  • Facial and hair serums – oil-based and water-based serums where a small dose per application matters.
  • Oil blends and massage oils in small packaging – samples, travel sizes or concentrated blends applied drop by drop.
  • Tinctures and herbal extracts with an alcohol base – glass does not react with alcohol and the brown colour slows light-induced degradation of plant components.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance compositions – dropper dispensing is practically a necessity with these, and brown glass additionally protects sensitive components.
  • Trial batches – a volume of 30 ml is sufficient for a stability test without having to fill a larger container.

The complete set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle itself also holds a certificate for direct food contact; however, the plastic dropper insert and cap do not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

How to use the set

The dropper insert is a plastic piece that is pressed into the neck of the vial after filling. It has no rubber bulb – drops are dispensed by tilting the bottle; the contents pass through the narrow opening of the insert and flow out one drop at a time. The cap then screws onto the neck thread over the dropper insert and seals the container. The dropper insert alone does not seal the bottle; the seal is provided only by the cap.

The set includes the long version of the dropper insert. The flow rate depends on the viscosity of the preparation: watery solutions and thin oils drip smoothly, while thick oils or serums with a higher proportion of thickener flow slowly and you may need to wait a moment.

Before filling a larger batch, test with one bottle how quickly a particular formulation flows through the dropper insert. If it drips too slowly, slightly reducing the viscosity helps, or choose a container with a bulb dropper.

Nominal and total volume

When filling, it is useful to distinguish two figures. The nominal volume is the volume for which the container is intended under normal filling conditions and which is stated on the label. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them allows for the dropper insert, which takes up some space when pressed into the neck, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise, inserting the dropper insert will force the contents out, and residues on the thread impair the cap seal. Both volumes are listed in the specifications.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – before filling with cosmetics, it is recommended to rinse the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. It is advisable to spray the dropper insert and cap in the same way and let them dry.
  • Material compatibility – glass is chemically resistant to oils, alcohol and acidic or alkaline aqueous solutions. The dropper insert is made of polypropylene and the cap of polyethylene. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, pure essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic parts on one sample; some components may soften or discolour the plastic over time.
  • Heat – glass tolerates filling with warmer contents; however, the plastic dropper insert and cap are fitted only after the preparation has cooled to room temperature. Do not expose the filled bottle to sudden temperature changes, as the glass may crack.
  • Labelling – the cylindrical body of the vial allows a label to be applied around its circumference. Choose label dimensions based on the height and diameter given in the specifications, so it does not extend into the shoulder area of the bottle.
  • Reuse – the glass bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. The dropper insert deforms when removed from the neck and the narrow opening is difficult to clean of oil residues, so it is recommended to replace it with a new one when refilling. The cap just needs to be washed and dried.
  • Other closures – other closures from the Handymade range also fit the neck with the same thread type. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the glass bottle goes into glass recycling; the plastic dropper insert and cap are separated before disposal and go into plastic recycling.

The dropper insert is not a sealing element. Always close the bottle with the cap for transport and check that it is tightened on a dry, clean thread – oil residues on the thread significantly impair the seal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the brown glass vial 30 ml protect the contents from light?
Yes, brown glass absorbs a substantial portion of the ultraviolet and visible light that accelerates the oxidation of oils and the degradation of sensitive components. For serums with vitamins, essential oil blends or tinctures, a brown vial is therefore more suitable than clear glass. It does not, however, replace proper storage – the bottle should still be kept away from direct sunlight and heat.
How do you dispense from a vial with a dropper insert and cap?
The contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle; the dropper insert fitted in the neck releases the preparation one drop at a time. The dropper insert has no rubber bulb – liquid is not drawn through it. After use, the bottle is closed with the white cap, which screws onto the neck thread over the dropper insert and is the sole element providing the seal.
Is the 30 ml glass vial with dropper insert set suitable for thick oils and serums?
The set is suitable primarily for thin to medium-viscosity preparations. Thin oils, water-based serums, tinctures and essential oil blends drip smoothly. Thick oils, serums with a higher proportion of thickener or preparations that solidify in the cold flow slowly through the dropper insert and are more conveniently dispensed with a bulb dropper or pump.
How many ml should be filled into a 30 ml vial?
The vial is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml – the amount stated on the label, not the full volume to the brim. The space above the nominal level is a reserve for the dropper insert, which is pressed into the neck after filling, and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents are pushed onto the thread and the cap then seals less effectively.
Can a glass vial with a dropper insert be used for food products?
The glass bottle itself holds a food-contact certificate, but the complete set with the plastic dropper insert and cap is not declared for food use as a whole. The set is intended for cosmetic products. If you need a container for home-use oils, syrups or extracts, choose a glass bottle and closure that both carry a food-contact certificate.
Can the vial with dropper insert be washed and refilled?
The glass bottle can be – after thorough washing with warm water, disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and complete drying, it can be filled again. The plastic dropper insert deforms when removed from the neck and the narrow opening is difficult to clean of oil residues, so when refilling it is recommended to use a new dropper insert. The cap just needs to be washed and dried.
