Product description

This amber glass medicine bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a white and gold pump is used for filling and dispensing liquid cosmetic products that are applied in small amounts. The amber glass limits the passage of light, so it protects contents that are sensitive to sunlight, for example facial serums, facial oils, concentrates of active ingredients or small batches for testing a formulation. The pump replaces both the dropper and unscrewing the cap. One press always releases approximately the same dose, the contents do not touch your fingers and the bottle stays closed. The set is supplied as a ready-made pair, so the bottle and the pump fit together without any need to search for a closure.

What it is suitable for

  • Serums and concentrates – water-based and oil-based serums, where only a few drops are applied per use and accurate dispensing matters.
  • Facial and nail oils – liquid oil blends with lower viscosity, which the pump can draw up.
  • Samples and travel packs – the 10 ml volume corresponds to a trial size of a product or a small travel pack.
  • Test batches – when fine-tuning a new formulation, it is enough to mix a small amount, fill the bottle and observe how the product behaves in real packaging.

Dispensing and working with the pump

The pump has a white and gold glossy head and is made of plastic (PP) and aluminium. One press delivers approximately 0.14 ml. The dip tube is longer than the bottle and is shortened before fitting so that it ends just above the bottom. The contents can then be used up without tilting the bottle.

Before first use, press the pump several times until the dip tube and head fill and the dose settles. The pump is designed for liquid to slightly viscous products. Thick gels, creams and butters do not belong in this type of packaging, as the pump will not draw them up or will become clogged. With products containing particles (scrub particles, undissolved pigments), the valve may jam.

Fit the pump immediately after filling and hold the bottle upright during the first pumping. The air in the dip tube is then pushed out faster and the first doses will not be only partly filled.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The total brimful volume stated in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck and is higher. The difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space once fitted, and for slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle will overflow when the pump is screwed on and the thread will be soiled.

Good to know

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; you can find the declaration of conformity with the product. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Before first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Rinse the pump with clean water and let it drain. Residual moisture inside would dilute the first dose. The glass withstands repeated cleaning and hot water, but not a sudden change in temperature. For this reason, do not pour hot liquid into a cold bottle. The pump contains plastic parts, so with concentrated essential oils or products with a high proportion of solvents, check that the material does not soften over time and that the seal does not leak.

The bottle can be reused. After the contents are used up, rinse the pump thoroughly, otherwise residues in the dip tube will dry out. An empty glass bottle belongs in glass recycling; the pump is made of plastic and metal and is sorted separately.

The pump is not a transport closure. When carrying the set in a pocket or suitcase, we recommend keeping it upright or in a bag, so that any leakage through the pump head does not soil its surroundings.

Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 10 ml amber glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass significantly reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents. It is therefore suitable for serums with vitamin C, retinol, vegetable oils or essential oils, which lose effectiveness and change scent faster in light. It does not replace storage in the dark, however, so keep packaging with light-sensitive contents out of direct sunlight.
How many millilitres does the pump of a 10 ml medicine bottle dispense per press?
One full press of the pump delivers approximately 0.14 ml of product. The actual dose depends on the consistency of the contents and on whether the dip tube and head are already filled. We recommend weighing the exact dose for your specific formulation after several presses, once the pump has filled and the dose has settled.
How many millilitres should be poured into a 10 ml medicine bottle with a pump?
Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and this difference is needed for the dip tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space once screwed on. If you fill to the brim, the contents will overflow through the thread when the pump is fitted and the outside of the bottle will stay greasy or sticky.
Is a 10 ml medicine bottle with a pump suitable for food or only for cosmetics?
The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products and is not approved for food contact. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the plastic pump does not have one. If you need packaging for food use, choose a closure for the bottle that has declared suitability for food contact.
How do I clean the pump of a 10 ml medicine bottle before reuse?
Pump it several times in warm water with washing-up liquid, then in clean water, and let it dry in an upright position so that the water drains from the dip tube. Dried oil residues can be loosened by isopropyl alcohol pumped through the mechanism. Wash the glass bottle, disinfect it with alcohol and make sure it is completely dry before filling, so that residual moisture does not affect the new contents.
