Product description

The glass medicine bottle with pump is designed for filling with serums, face and hair oils and light emulsions that are applied in small amounts. The amber glass limits the light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oils and active ingredients sensitive to oxidation. The pump releases a fraction of a millilitre per press, so you take exactly as much from the bottle as one application needs, without opening it and without your fingers touching the contents.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Face serums – water-based and oil-based serums applied in an amount of a few drops. A small dose per press corresponds to a usual single application.
  • Face and hair oils – blends of vegetable oils for the face, the décolleté or hair ends. The oil is dispensed straight into your palm without tilting the bottle.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – thinner creams that pass through the dip tube of the pump. Thick creams and butters are not dispensed through this type of pump.
  • Samples and test batches – the volume of 30 ml is enough to try out a formulation or for a travel pack, without having to decant a larger stock.
  • Gift packaging – the combination of amber glass and a glossy white and gold top looks neat even without further decoration; a label is all you need.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 30 ml is the amount the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The total brimful volume stated in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill the medicine bottle too high, the dip tube displaces the contents when you screw on the pump, and the thread and the seal get soiled.

Filling and dispensing

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then let it dry completely. The pump is disinfected by spraying alcohol through the mechanism and the dip tube. Pour the contents into the dry bottle through a funnel with a narrow neck, screw on the pump and draw the contents into the mechanism with the first presses.

The dip tube of the pump is longer than the body of the bottle. Before fitting, shorten it with a slanted cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The slanted cut prevents the end of the tube from sticking to the glass and the pump from no longer drawing up the contents.

Do not fill the glass with hot contents. Let emulsions and oils cool to room temperature. A sudden change of temperature can damage the glass, and expanding contents reduce the reserve under the neck.

Good to know

Glass does not react with water-based, alcohol-based or oil-based contents, so the medicine bottle can be filled with alcohol-containing toners, oils and water-based serums. The pump is made of plastic (PP) and aluminium. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking beforehand that the material of the pump does not react with the contents and that the dispensing remains even.

The pump handles only liquid and semi-liquid contents. With thicker creams the dip tube clogs and the mechanism draws in air. Check the viscosity of your product on a small amount before you fill the whole batch.

The bottle and the pump can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When you change the formulation, it is better to replace the dip tube or rinse it with alcohol, so that residues of the previous contents do not get into the new product.

The bottle has the neck finish stated in the parameters. If you would like to replace the pump with another closure, you will find closures with the same neck finish and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber medicine bottle with pump protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass limits the light reaching the contents and thus slows down the oxidation of oils and sensitive active ingredients. It does not replace full protection, so keep the filled bottle out of direct sunlight. For oils and serums, dark glass is more suitable than clear glass, which shows the contents but lets light through.
How much fits into a 30 ml medicine bottle with pump?
The medicine bottle is filled to its nominal volume of 30 ml. The total brimful volume is larger, and the difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you filled it to the brim, the pump would displace the contents and soil the thread and the seal.
Can cream be dispensed from the pump on a 30 ml medicine bottle?
Only a thinner cream or fluid that passes through the dip tube. The pump does not draw thick creams and butters, and the mechanism clogs. For emulsions, we recommend testing the dispensing on a small amount before filling the whole batch. The pump handles serums and oils without difficulty.
Is the 30 ml medicine bottle with pump set suitable for food?
The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, and the pump does not carry such a declaration. For homemade oils or syrups, therefore, use a bottle with a different closure that has a food-contact certificate.
How do I clean the medicine bottle with pump before reusing it?
Wash the bottle with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then let it dry. Spray clean water through the pump, followed by alcohol, to remove residues of the contents from the mechanism and the dip tube. If the formulation changes significantly, it is better to replace the dip tube.
Can I fill the amber medicine bottle with a toner containing alcohol or with essential oils?
Glass tolerates water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based contents. The pump is made of plastic (PP) and aluminium, so with concentrated essential oils and solvents we recommend checking the behaviour of the mechanism with your specific formulation. The pump handles ordinary toners and oil blends with a smaller proportion of essential oils without problems.
