Product description
The amber glass medicine bottle with a black aluminium cap, 5 ml, is used for filling small quantities of cosmetics: samples of serums and facial oils, essential oil blends, perfume oils or tinctures. Amber glass limits the passage of light, so it suits contents that light gradually degrades, especially vegetable and essential oils. The cap with 18/410 neck finish is supplied as part of the set, so you only need to fill the bottle and close it.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not intended for contact with food.
How the bottle and cap work together
Medicine bottle is the name of the shape: a narrow cylindrical bottle with a short neck and a thread. The aluminium cap has an inner EPE liner (foam polyethylene), which sits against the neck when tightened and seals the contents.
The cap has no dispensing element. The contents are poured out of the bottle or taken with a glass rod or spatula, which is sufficient for oil samples and tinctures. If you need to dispense drops or spray, other closures from our range also fit the same 18/410 neck. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
What it is suitable for
- Samples of serums and facial oils – a volume of 5 ml is enough for a customer to try a formulation for several days or to compare several variants side by side.
- Essential oil blends – dark glass slows the changes in fragrance caused by light.
- Perfume oils and alcohol-based compositions – a small volume limits evaporation, and the contents are used up before their character can change.
- Tinctures and concentrated extracts – for dispensing small amounts into creams, toners or bath products.
- Retention samples for documentation – archiving a batch of oil or fragrance for later comparison.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is stated in the parameters. The difference provides a reserve for the cap liner, any dropper, and the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled medicine bottle seals less well, and the contents run onto the thread when it is opened.
With oils and alcohol-based compositions, leave a visible air gap below the neck. The contents expand when warmed and, if the bottle is full, press against the cap liner.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely.
- Glass and heat – let a hot mixture cool before filling. A sudden temperature change can crack the glass.
- Tightening – tighten the cap by hand. With excessive force, the thin aluminium deforms and the liner then does not seat evenly.
- Reuse – the glass can be washed and used again. Check the cap liner: if it is compressed, damaged or carries the fragrance of the previous contents, use a new cap.
- Recycling – both glass and aluminium are recyclable. Before disposal, unscrew the cap and sort the two parts separately.
With alcohol-based contents, essential oils and other volatile contents, check the tightness on one filled bottle laid on its side for several days. Only then fill the whole series.
