Product description
A small glass vial with a black aluminium cap is packaging for samples, concentrates and test batches with a volume of 15 ml. Amber glass reduces light transmission and therefore protects light-sensitive contents such as facial oils, serums with sensitive active ingredients, essential oil blends and alcohol tinctures. Glass also does not react with contents, making it suitable for alcohol-based and oil-based preparations that may not be compatible with plastic packaging. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; the declaration of conformity and technical data are available in the product parameters.
The small volume makes the vial a practical choice for customer samples, travel packaging or concentrates dispensed drop by drop or in small quantities. Vial is a name referring to the shape with a narrow neck and straight sides; it has no connection to pharmaceutical use.
What the set contains and how it works
- Amber glass vial – the packaging body made of coloured glass that limits the effect of light on the contents. The narrow threaded neck allows dispensing small amounts; for precise drop-by-drop application it can be fitted with a dropper insert with the same neck type.
- Black aluminium cap – a screw closure with an insert made of expanded polyethylene (EPE). When tightened, the insert presses against the neck and provides a seal; the aluminium shell gives the closure rigidity.
- Uniform neck type – the bottle and cap share the same thread type, so they fit together without checking compatibility. Closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range; with a custom combination we recommend verifying the seal and packaging behaviour with your specific formulation.
Nominal and total volume
Two volumes are stated for the packaging and it is useful to distinguish between them. Nominal volume is the amount of preparation the vial is designed for when filled normally. Total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them provides a margin for the cap, any dropper insert, and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim; overfilling can cause the contents to spill during closing or remain trapped in the thread.
When filling oils and alcohol-based preparations, leave free space below the neck. Contents expand slightly during warm storage or transport and the excess would enter the thread, where it deteriorates the seal and contaminates the cap.
What the vial is suitable for
- Facial and hair oils – vegetable oils and their blends with essential oils, dispensed drop by drop. Amber glass slows light-induced oxidation, which is important for oils with unsaturated fatty acids.
- Serums and concentrates – small quantities of preparations with light-sensitive active ingredients, such as vitamin C or retinol.
- Essential oil blends – glass does not react with essential oils or solvents that could affect certain plastics.
- Alcohol tinctures and extracts for cosmetic use – alcohol is stable in glass and the amber colour protects plant components from light.
- Samples and test batches – a volume suitable for trying out a new formula or sending a sample to a customer.
The vial with a narrow neck is not suitable for thick creams and balms as they are difficult to dispense from it; for such textures a jar is the appropriate choice.
What is useful to know
Preparation before first filling. Before use, wash the vial and cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in the glass would introduce moisture into an anhydrous preparation and reduce its stability.
Glass and heat. Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Allow the hot oil phase to cool before filling and do not expose the vial to an open flame or boiling. When disinfecting with hot water, heat the packaging gradually.
Tightening the cap. Tighten the aluminium cap with EPE insert firmly, but without excessive force. Over-tightening permanently compresses the insert and the aluminium may deform, which impairs the seal on subsequent opening. On the first fill, we recommend checking the seal by turning the filled vial neck downward.
Labelling. The straight side of the vial allows a label to be applied. For small packaging, a narrower label or a neck tag is suitable. Poznámka: SK segment obsahuje iba druhú vetu. Prvé dve vety EN („Labelling. The straight side of the vial…“) v SK originále chýbajú, takže sú zrejme z iného segmentu alebo boli pridané navyše. Okrem toho „vial“ je podľa glosára zamietnutý tvar; správne je „pharmaceutical bottle“. Podľa zadania som zmenil iba značky a text som nechal tak. Odporúčam segment skontrolovať proti zdroju.
Recycling. Glass belongs in glass collection and the aluminium cap in metal collection; separate them before disposal.
The set is not intended for contact with food. Use it for cosmetic preparations, not for edible oils, syrups or food extracts.
