Product description

This glass bottle with dropper, both in a glossy black finish, is designed for filling and dispensing liquid cosmetic products drop by drop. Black glass protects the contents from light, which you will appreciate especially with oil serums, facial oils and blends containing essential oils. The nominal volume of 50 ml matches the usual size of a facial serum, beard oil or hair elixir. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the bottle and dropper are matched in both colour and size.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial and oil serums – the dropper dispenses an exact number of drops, which saves both the product and the skin with concentrated formulations.
  • Facial and body oils – the dark glass protects the contents from light, which does oils no good.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance blends – glass does not react with the contents, and drop-by-drop dispensing is ideal for diluting into a carrier oil or a diffuser.
  • Beard oils and hair elixirs – 50 ml lasts for several weeks of use, and the dropper applies the product directly onto the palm or skin.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass withstands alcohol without any change in appearance.

How to use the set

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and an aluminium and plastic cap with an 18/410 neck finish. Squeezing the bulb draws up the contents, and once the pressure is released, the product comes out one drop at a time, so even small amounts can be measured. The tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so the last of the contents can also be drawn out.

When filling, fill the bottle only up to the nominal volume, i.e. 50 ml. The brimful capacity is larger and is listed in the specifications. The difference between the two values leaves room for the dropper tube, which takes up part of the space once screwed on, and for the contents to expand with changes in temperature. If the bottle is filled to the brim, the contents will overflow through the neck when the dropper is inserted.

Before the first filling, measure out 50 ml and note where the liquid level reaches. For subsequent fillings, you can then fill by eye and screw on the dropper without overflowing.

The glossy black surface also conceals the contents, so the colour of the serum or oil plays no role when choosing the packaging. The matching finish of the bottle and dropper gives the packaging a uniform look without any further adjustments.

Good to know

Before the first filling, we recommend washing and disinfecting both the bottle and the dropper with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. Residual water in the tube or on the walls would get into an anhydrous oil or serum.

The set can be used repeatedly. When changing the contents, clean the tube and the bulb in particular, as residues of the previous product remain in them. Leave the dropper empty after use and store the bottle upright so that the contents are not in permanent contact with the silicone bulb.

Only the glass bottle on its own is certified for direct contact with food. The dropper is not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics, not for food oils or syrups.

With undiluted essential oils and products with a high proportion of solvents, we recommend checking how the silicone bulb behaves with your specific formulation. The glass itself is resistant to oils, alcohol and water. Let hot contents cool before filling.

Closures with the same 18/410 neck finish and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your formulation. Once empty, the bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper is made of several materials, so separate the glass tube from the cap and bulb before recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does a black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, glossy black glass protects the contents from light. It is therefore suitable for oils, serums and essential oil blends, which deteriorate faster when exposed to light. Glass on its own does not protect against heat or air, so the bottle should be kept closed and stored away from heat sources.
How much does the dropper bottle actually hold?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml; the brimful capacity is larger and is listed in the specifications. The margin between the two values is reserved for the glass dropper tube, which takes up part of the internal space once screwed on, and for the contents to expand in warm conditions. If filled up to the neck, the dropper will push the contents out and the bottle will overflow.
Is the dropper bottle set suitable for food oils?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the glass bottle on its own is certified for direct contact with food; the dropper is declared suitable for cosmetics only. The set is suitable for cosmetic serums, oils and tinctures, but for food you would need to choose a different closure with a food-contact certificate.
Can the dropper be used for undiluted essential oils?
Both the glass tube and the glass bottle withstand essential oils. The silicone bulb only comes into brief contact with the concentrated oil when it is drawn up. However, the oil should not be left drawn up in the tube between uses, and we recommend checking how the bulb behaves with your specific blend after a few weeks.
How do I clean the dropper and bottle before reusing them?
Wash the bottle and dropper in warm water with washing-up liquid, then rinse the tube several times by drawing up clean water, followed by isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Let everything air-dry with the dropper removed from the bottle. For oily residues, it helps to rinse the tube with alcohol first and only then with water, as oils do not dissolve in water alone.
Are the dropper and bottle threads interchangeable with other packaging?
Yes, both the bottle and the dropper have an 18/410 neck finish, so the dropper can be screwed onto another bottle with the same neck and the bottle will take another closure with this thread. However, the length of the glass tube is matched to the height of this 50 ml bottle, so with other packaging it may hit the bottom or fail to reach the contents. We always recommend checking that the combination seals properly.
