Product description

This is a ready-made kit consisting of a clear glass bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a white plastic pump sprayer with a dip tube. It is intended for liquid preparations applied by spraying: facial tonics, hydrolats, facial and body mists, hair sprays, air and linen fresheners, or alcohol-based waters. Both the bottle and the sprayer are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, so the kit can be used for a finished product intended for sale as well as for personal home production.

Clear glass reveals the colour and clarity of the contents, which is useful for hydrolats, tinted tonics or floral waters that you want to showcase. Glass also does not react with the contents, does not absorb fragrances, and is compatible with both alcohol-based and water-based formulations. The sprayer disperses the contents into a fine mist and releases a small, repeatable dose of around 0.13 ml with each press, ensuring economical and even dispensing.

What the kit can handle and where its limits are

  • Water-based and alcohol-based contents – hydrolats, tonics, floral waters, hand sanitiser sprays or perfumed alcohol-based waters are the most suitable for this kit. Thin liquids pass through the nozzle without issues and the mist is fine.
  • Light mists with active ingredients – very thin two-phase or milky mists can be sprayed if they do not contain thickeners. Before filling a larger batch, we recommend testing whether the nozzle stays unclogged.
  • Oil-based contents – pure vegetable oils and thicker oil serums cannot be sprayed; the mechanism either forces them out in a stream or becomes clogged. For oils, packaging with a dropper or pump is more appropriate.
  • Light protection – clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Preparations sensitive to light (hydrolats without a preservative, vitamin C, essential oils) should be stored in the filled kit in the dark, or choose amber or blue glass.

Nominal volume and volume to the brim

The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended at normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is always slightly larger. The difference provides a buffer for the dip tube and the body of the sprayer, which take up some space when screwed on, as well as for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents will be pushed out through the thread when the sprayer is attached, and the bottle will not seal properly.

The sprayer's dip tube reaches to the bottom of the bottle. If you want to use the contents down to the last dose, check the tube before first use and, if necessary, trim it slightly so that it touches the bottom without bending.

Preparation before filling and reuse

Before filling for the first time, wash the bottle with warm water, sanitise with alcohol (isopropyl alcohol or ethanol) and allow to dry completely. Rinse the sprayer with clean water, press it several times without any liquid, and allow it to drain. When filling water-based preparations without a preservative, cleanliness of the packaging is crucial, as residues of water or previous contents are a source of microbial contamination.

The kit is intended for repeated use. The glass bottle can be refilled after thorough washing without limitation. After each fill, rinse the sprayer thoroughly, especially if it contained alcohol-based or perfumed preparations, otherwise the fragrances will transfer to the next fill.

Glass cannot withstand sudden temperature changes. Do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not take it directly from the refrigerator into hot water. Fill hydrolats and tonics once they have cooled to room temperature.

Good to know

The glass bottle on its own holds a certification for direct contact with food. The sprayer does not have this certification, so the kit as a whole is intended for cosmetic and technical use, not for food. If you need a cleaning spray with vinegar or a plant mister, this is technical use and the kit is suitable without restriction.

The bottle has a standard neck with the thread type listed in the product specifications. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. When using your own combination, we recommend verifying seal integrity and dosing with the specific formulation, especially with alcohol-based and essential oil components.

When labelling, bear in mind that through the clear glass the reverse side of the label is also visible. At the end of its service life, glass goes into the glass recycling bin and the sprayer into plastic; separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Hydrolats, preparations containing vitamin C or essential oils that change quickly in light should be stored in the filled bottle in the dark or in a cupboard. If the product is to stand on a shelf or in a bathroom exposed to light, opt instead for a bottle made of amber or blue glass with the same neck type.
Can oil be sprayed from a 50 ml glass bottle with a pump sprayer?
No, this sprayer is not suitable for pure oils or thicker oil serums. The mechanism is designed for thin water-based and alcohol-based liquids; oil either comes out in a stream or the nozzle becomes blocked. For oil-based products, packaging with a dropper or pump with the same neck type is more appropriate.
Is a glass bottle with a pump sprayer suitable for alcohol-based preparations?
Yes, a glass bottle with a plastic pump sprayer is suitable for alcohol-based tonics, perfumed waters and sanitiser sprays. Glass does not react with alcohol, and the polypropylene sprayer withstands standard concentrations of ethanol. With a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking the seal and the condition of the nozzle after a few weeks of use.
How much content fits in a 50 ml bottle and how should it be filled correctly?
The bottle should be filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. The space above this level is taken up by the dip tube and the body of the sprayer, and also serves as a buffer for temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents will be pushed out through the thread when the sprayer is screwed on and the closure will not seal.
Is a glass bottle with a pump sprayer suitable for food?
The kit as a whole is not intended for food. The food-contact certification applies to the glass bottle individually; the sprayer does not hold this certification. For food use, such as for oils, syrups or infusions, use the bottle with a different closure that has food-grade suitability listed in its specifications. For cosmetics, the kit is declared as suitable.
How do I clean the sprayer when it stops producing a mist?
First rinse the sprayer with warm water and press it several times without any liquid to release residues from the nozzle. If it contained an alcohol-based or perfumed preparation, rinsing with alcohol followed by clean water will help. Do not disassemble the mechanism – the small parts are difficult to reassemble and the seal may deteriorate. If the damage is permanent, replace the sprayer with a new one of the same neck type.
