Product description

A ready-made set comprising an amber glass bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml and a white plastic spray pump. It is intended for cosmetic preparations applied by spraying: facial toners, hydrosols, refreshing mists, hair sprays or scented waters. The amber glass limits light transmission and thus helps protect ingredients that break down when exposed to light.

The spray pump has the same neck type as the bottle, so it screws on directly, without an adapter. You will find other ready-made closure combinations for this bottle in our range. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. A certificate for direct food contact applies to the glass bottle on its own; the set as a whole, including the spray pump, is intended for cosmetics.

Why choose this set

  • Protection from light – amber glass transmits less light than clear glass, which you will appreciate with hydrosols, toners containing plant extracts, vitamins or essential oils.
  • Fine spray – the mechanism disperses the contents into tiny droplets, so toners and mists are applied evenly and without dripping.
  • Precise dosing – a single press releases approximately 0.13 ml, which allows sparing use of more concentrated preparations.
  • Chemically neutral packaging – glass does not react with alcohol, the acidic pH of toners or aqueous solutions of active ingredients, and it does not absorb scents.
  • Handy size – the 50 ml volume is practical for travel, for a handbag and for samples for customers.

What the set is suitable for

The spray pump works best with liquids as thin as water. The most suitable are facial toners and hydrosols, setting and refreshing facial mists, water- or spirit-based hair sprays, scented waters and body sprays containing alcohol, disinfectant sprays for hands and tools, and sprays for laundry or interiors.

Thick serums, gels and emulsions will not be dispersed by the spray pump, or it will clog. With thin oils or oil-and-spirit blends, we recommend verifying how the spray pump behaves on a single unit before you fill a larger batch. Viscosity and composition affect both the quality of the spray and the lifespan of the mechanism.

If you are preparing a mist with essential oils, first dissolve them using a solubiliser. Undissolved oil on the surface sprays unevenly and over time leaves a film in the nozzle.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume all the way up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference provides a reserve for the spray pump's dip tube, which reaches down to the bottom, and for the expansion of the contents as the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents may leak out through the neck when the spray pump is screwed on.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. The spray pump simply needs to be rinsed with clean ethanol and "sprayed" empty a few times to remove residues from the dip tube and nozzle.

Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature well. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle and do not move a filled container straight from the cold into the heat. Toners and mists are normally filled when cooled to room temperature, which is gentlest for both the glass and the spray pump.

The spray pump is made of polypropylene, which resists aqueous solutions and common concentrations of alcohol. With preparations containing a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, the mechanism may wear out over time, so test such contents first.

The spray pump is not intended for thick preparations or for suspensions containing undissolved particles. Settled extract or pigment will clog the nozzle. Before filling, filter the contents or let them settle and draw off the clear part.

The set is intended for repeated use. When changing the contents, wash the bottle, disinfect it and rinse the spray pump. When changing scents between fillings, bear in mind that the plastic may briefly retain a scent. The glass belongs in glass recycling, the spray pump in plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass transmits significantly less light than clear glass and slows the breakdown of light-sensitive ingredients. This applies to hydrosols, toners with vitamins and plant extracts, as well as preparations with essential oils. However, it does not provide complete darkness, so do not store the filled container in direct sunlight or near a heat source.
Can the spray pump on the 50 ml glass bottle be used for oil?
The spray pump is designed for liquids as thin as water, so it is generally not recommended for oils. Thin oils and oil-and-spirit blends may work, but the spray tends to be coarser and the mechanism wears out faster. Before filling a batch, we recommend verifying the behaviour with your specific formulation on a single unit.
How much liquid should I pour into the glass bottle with the spray pump?
Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, that is approximately 50 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck is a reserve for the spray pump's dip tube, which displaces some of the contents when screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid as the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle will overflow when being closed.
Is the glass bottle with spray pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. A certificate for direct food contact applies to the glass bottle on its own; the plastic spray pump does not have one. If you need packaging for food use, choose a closure with a food-grade certificate for the bottle.
How do I clean the glass bottle with spray pump before refilling?
Wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry thoroughly. Fit the spray pump onto a container of clean ethanol, press it a few times and then let it dry. After strongly aromatic contents, bear in mind that the plastic may retain the scent for some time.
Can the glass bottle with spray pump withstand hot filling?
Glass tolerates heat but not sudden thermal shock. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle and do not place a hot bottle on a cold surface. Toners and mists are normally filled at room temperature. If you heat the contents during preparation, let them cool before filling and screw on the spray pump only onto cooled contents.
