Product description

A small bottle of amber glass with a white spray pump is designed for liquid cosmetic preparations that need to be protected from light and dispensed as a fine mist. The dark glass reduces light transmission, making the set particularly suitable for liquids whose components lose efficacy or change scent when exposed to light. The spray pump disperses the contents into a fine mist, making it easy to dose water- and alcohol-based liquids – hydrolats, facial tonics, hair and body mists, perfume waters and refreshing sprays. The small volume is practical for samples, travel packaging and testing new formulations in smaller quantities.

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

Key features

  • Light protection – amber glass reduces light transmission, which helps preserve the stability of essential oils, plant extracts and fragrance components in water- and alcohol-based preparations.
  • Fine spraying – the spray pump dispenses a small amount with each press; the contents are evenly distributed over the skin or hair and nothing is wasted.
  • Odour-free glass – glass does not absorb scent or react with the contents; the bottle can be refilled with a different preparation after washing.
  • Practical format – the low, narrow vial shape fits in a handbag or travel bag and is also suitable as a gift or sample.

How to use the set

The spray pump screws onto the bottle neck and draws the contents from the bottom through a dip tube. The dip tube is longer than the bottle, so before first use trim it at an angle so it reaches the bottom without bending. After filling, press the pump several times until the tube fills and the spray begins to dispense evenly.

The spray pump is intended for liquids with low viscosity – water, hydrolats, tonics, alcohol solutions, light two-phase sprays after shaking. Vegetable oils, thick serums and emulsions will not atomise through this spray pump; the mechanism becomes clogged and dispensing is uneven. For oily contents, a dropper bottle or pump bottle is more suitable.

For own formulations, we recommend testing the spray pump's behaviour with the specific formulation in advance – especially for sprays with solubilised essential oils or with a higher proportion of glycerin, which may thicken the mist or leave a sticky film.

Good to know

Nominal and total volume. The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for during normal filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger. The difference forms a reserve for the dip tube and spray mechanism and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – otherwise the contents will be pushed out when the spray pump is screwed on.

Preparation before filling. Before first use, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. The same applies for repeated use; rinse the spray pump with clean water and press it several times empty to clean the tube and nozzle as well.

Preserving the contents. Water-based preparations in a spray need adequate preservation just as in any other packaging. Although the spray pump limits contact between the contents and fingers, air is drawn into the bottle during dispensing, so an unpreserved hydrolat does not become more durable here either.

Glass and heat. Glass withstands normal temperatures during filling, but do not expose a filled bottle to sudden temperature changes and do not leave it in direct sunlight – even amber glass only partially protects the contents.

Labelling. The straight cylindrical body of the bottle allows a narrow label to be applied.

Recycling. Glass goes into glass waste; the spray pump is made of polypropylene – separate the two parts before disposal.

The set is not intended for packaging food, beverages or edible oils – only the glass bottle itself holds food-contact approval, not the spray pump.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 10 ml glass bottle with spray pump suitable for a hydrolat?
Yes, hydrolats are one of the most suitable contents for this set. Amber glass slows their degradation by light and the low viscosity of a hydrolat is dispersed by the spray pump into a fine mist. The hydrolat must be preserved – the spray pump itself will not prevent contamination, as it draws air into the bottle during dispensing.
Can vegetable oil be dispensed with the spray pump?
No, vegetable oils and thick serums will not atomise through this spray pump. The oil comes out in a stream or drops, the nozzle gradually clogs and dispensing is uneven. A dropper bottle or pump bottle is more suitable for oils; the spray pump is designed for water- and alcohol-based liquids.
How much liquid can be filled into the glass bottle with spray pump?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The difference between the nominal and total volume is a reserve for the dip tube and for the expansion of the contents. If you fill it to the neck, some of the contents will be pushed out when the spray pump is screwed on and the packaging may not seal properly.
Does amber glass protect the contents from light completely?
Not completely – amber glass significantly reduces light transmission but does not eliminate it. For preparations containing essential oils, vitamins or plant extracts, it offers substantially better protection than clear glass or plastic. Even so, store the filled bottle away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
Can the glass bottle with spray pump be reused?
Yes, both the glass and the spray pump can be used multiple times. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and allow it to dry; rinse the spray pump with water and pump it through empty. When changing contents, especially from a scented to an unscented formulation, bear in mind that a trace of the previous scent may remain in the plastic mechanism.
Is the glass bottle with spray pump also suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not declared for food contact. The food-contact approval applies only to the glass bottle individually; the spray pump does not have it. The set with spray pump is therefore intended for cosmetic preparations – tonics, mists, perfume waters and similar liquids.
