Product description

The clear glass bottle with black spray pump 50 ml is a ready-made combination of a clear glass bottle and a black plastic spray pump, designed for dispensing liquid cosmetic preparations in the form of a fine mist. It is ideal wherever the contents should not be poured or applied with fingers, but evenly distributed onto skin, hair or fabric. The clear glass shows the colour and purity of the fill, which you will appreciate with hydrolats, tonics and light aqueous solutions that you want to monitor visually as well.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The glass bottle itself also holds a certificate for direct food contact, however the spray pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use.

Why choose this combination

  • Fine and economical dispensing – the spray pump releases a small dose in a mist with each press, so the preparation is applied evenly and without waste.
  • Glass with no impact on the contents – glass does not react with aqueous or alcohol-based fills, does not absorb fragrances and can be thoroughly cleaned repeatedly.
  • Contents always visible – the clear glass allows you to monitor the fill level and any changes in appearance, such as cloudiness or sediment.
  • A ready-made, matched pair – the spray pump and dip tube are dimensioned for this bottle. The tube reaches the bottom so that almost the entire fill can be used.
  • Practical handbag-size volume – the nominal volume of 50 ml is suitable for samples, travel sizes and preparations consumed over a few weeks.

What the set is suitable for

The spray pump works reliably with thin, aqueous liquids. Most commonly filled into this combination are hydrolats and facial tonics, facial and body mists, hair sprays to ease detangling, refreshing fabric sprays, room fragrances on an alcohol base, hand sanitiser sprays and solutions with water-soluble active ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid at low concentration.

Conversely, thicker preparations, oils, serums with higher viscosity and emulsions dispense poorly through this type of spray pump. The nozzle clogs or produces a stream instead of a mist. For such fills a bottle with a dropper or pump dispenser is more suitable.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. We recommend storing light-sensitive fills – such as vitamin C solutions, hydrolats without preservation or preparations with essential oils – away from direct sunlight, or choosing amber or blue glass.

Nominal and total volume

For every container we distinguish two values. Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for during standard filling and the figure stated on the label. Total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between them is the headspace taken up by the dip tube and spray pump, which also allows the contents room to expand with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If overfilled, the contents would spill over the neck after screwing on the spray pump and could seep into the thread. Exact values for both volumes can be found in the product parameters.

What is good to know before filling

Container preparation. Before first use, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Prime the spray pump by fitting it onto a bottle with clean water or alcohol and pressing several times until the dip tube and nozzle are cleared. Residual water in the dip tube would otherwise dilute the first doses.

Priming. After filling and screwing on the spray pump, several dry presses are needed before the dip tube fills up and the mist becomes even. This is normal behaviour for a mechanical spray pump, not a defect.

Preservation of the fill. Aqueous and hydrolat fills without a preservative are prone to microbial deterioration regardless of the container. While the spray pump limits direct hand contact with the contents, it does not replace a preservation system.

Repeated use. The glass bottle can be washed, disinfected and reused without restriction. After each emptying, rinse the spray pump with clean water; when changing the fill, also with alcohol, to prevent the previous fragrance or active ingredient from transferring to the new one. If it begins to dispense unevenly or stops sealing, replace it.

Material and fill. The spray pump is made of polypropylene, which tolerates standard aqueous and alcohol-based solutions well. For fills with a higher proportion of essential oils, solvents or surfactants, we recommend testing the spray pump's behaviour on a smaller quantity in advance, paying particular attention to the seal and the quality of the mist after a few days.

Labelling. A wraparound label can be applied to the body of the bottle. Bottle dimensions are listed in the parameters. Bear in mind that with sprays the fill may splash onto the label, so film or laminated paper labels are recommended.

Recycling. After emptying, the glass bottle belongs in glass waste and the spray pump in plastics. Separate them before disposal.

If you wish to use a different dispensing method with this bottle, closures with the same neck type (stated in the parameters) and ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. When assembling your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing behaviour with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear glass bottle with spray pump protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. The advantage of clear glass is that you can see the fill level and its appearance. Light-sensitive preparations – such as vitamin C solutions or unpreserved hydrolats – should therefore be stored in the dark or a bottle made of amber or blue glass should be chosen, as these absorb part of the light.
Can the 50 ml glass bottle with spray pump be used for oil or an oil-based serum?
This set is not suitable for oils and thicker serums. The spray pump is intended for thin aqueous and alcohol-based liquids. With oil, the nozzle clogs and produces a stream or drops rather than a fine mist. For oil-based fills, the same bottle in combination with a dropper or pump dispenser – available in our range – is more suitable.
How much fill fits in the 50 ml glass bottle with spray pump?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. The total volume to the brim is slightly larger, but this difference provides headspace for the spray pump dip tube and for the contents to expand with temperature changes. If filled right to the neck, the contents would overflow and seep into the thread when the spray pump is screwed on.
Is the glass bottle and spray pump set suitable for food contact?
The set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct food contact, but the black spray pump does not, so the entire combination is intended for cosmetic preparations, such as tonics, hydrolats, facial mists or hair sprays. Suitability for contact with cosmetics is declared for both components.
How do you clean the glass bottle with spray pump when changing the fill?
Wash the bottle with warm water, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry. Prime the spray pump by fitting it onto a bottle with clean water or alcohol and pressing repeatedly until both the dip tube and nozzle are cleared. Once both parts are thoroughly dry, they can be filled with the new preparation. If the spray pump begins to dispense unevenly, replace it.
Why doesn't the spray pump spray immediately after filling?
After screwing on the spray pump, several dry presses are needed before the dip tube fills with the preparation and the air escapes. This is normal behaviour for a mechanical spray pump, not a fault. If the mist is still not even after ten presses, check that the dip tube reaches into the fill and that the nozzle is not clogged with a thicker component of the preparation.
