Product description
Glass medicine bottle with a fine mist sprayer for 50 ml of hydrosol, facial mist, toner or perfume water. The amber glass filters light, so the bottle is also suitable for contents that are sensitive to light. The sprayer in a black and gold glossy finish disperses the liquid into fine droplets. The contents are applied evenly and without touching them with your fingers, which is also a hygienic advantage with water-based formulations.
The set consists of a glass medicine bottle with an 18 mm neck and a plastic sprayer with aluminium parts. The whole set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle itself also has a certificate for direct food contact, but the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for during normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and the difference between the two provides a reserve for the sprayer tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise part of the contents will be pushed out when you screw on the sprayer.
What it is suitable for
- Hydrosols and facial mists – watery contents with low viscosity are dispersed best by the sprayer, and the amber glass also protects sensitive ingredients from light.
- Toners and water-based serums – thin aqueous solutions with hyaluronic acid, glycerine or plant extracts are applied directly to the skin without a cotton pad.
- Perfume waters and alcohol-based sprays – a volume of 50 ml corresponds to a common pack size of perfume water, hair mist or a refreshing fabric spray.
- Hair and body sprays – light leave-in products, for example sprays with a hydrosol and a water-soluble conditioning agent.
- Samples and travel packs – the smaller volume allows you to try out a new recipe or prepare a gift pack without filling a large bottle.
What to know when filling
The sprayer is designed for watery and alcohol-based contents. Gels, emulsions and thick serums are dispensed unevenly through the nozzle or clog it. With oil-based contents, the result depends on the thickness of the oil: thin oils can usually be handled by the sprayer, thick ones cannot. Before filling a larger quantity, test how your particular formulation behaves in a single bottle.
Concentrated essential oils and fragrance compositions in a high proportion may, over time, affect the plastic parts of the sprayer. For alcohol-based sprays with a higher content of fragrance ingredients, we recommend checking the condition of the nozzle and tube after several weeks of use.
One press releases approximately 0.14 ml. From this figure you can estimate the number of sprays in a full bottle and how much of the active ingredient reaches the skin with a single application.
Water-based contents in a medicine bottle with a sprayer need preservation just as in any other packaging. The sprayer limits contact of the contents with your fingers, but air enters the bottle with every press. Prepare unpreserved hydrosol or toner only in small quantities and store it in a cool place.
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Before use, spray clean water through the sprayer several times and let it dry, as moisture in the tube would otherwise dilute the first doses. Pour in the contents once they have cooled down, as the glass does not tolerate a sudden transition between hot contents and a cold environment.
If the sprayer tube reaches below the bottom of the bottle and bends, shorten it with an oblique cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The sprayer will then draw up even the last millilitres of the contents.
After washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. Rinse the sprayer with clean water or diluted alcohol and let it dry. When changing the fragrance or recipe, bear in mind that the plastic parts may retain a residue of the previous scent. The 18 mm neck also allows the bottle to be combined with other closures of the same neck type from the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your particular formulation.
For recycling, unscrew the bottle from the sprayer. The glass belongs in glass recycling, and the sprayer with its plastic and aluminium parts belongs in plastics.
