Product description
This white plastic bottle with a volume of 50 ml and a fine mist sprayer in glossy black and gold is ready-to-use packaging for thin cosmetic products applied as a spray. It suits facial toners, hydrolates and refreshing mists, light hair tonics, or alcohol-based disinfectant and perfume sprays in travel sizes. The bottle is made of PET, weighs little and does not break when dropped, so it works well in a handbag, when travelling and as sample packaging for customers. The white material hides the contents and limits light exposure, which you will appreciate with hydrolates and toners containing plant extracts.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
What it is suitable for
- Facial toners and hydrolates – low-viscosity aqueous solutions pass through the nozzle and are dispersed into an even mist.
- Refreshing and setting mists – light aqueous or water-alcohol products for the face, body or hair that are applied from a greater distance.
- Alcohol-based sprays – hand sanitiser sprays, fabric fresheners or perfume waters based on ethanol.
- Travel and sample packaging – the bottle fits into hand luggage and withstands being carried in a bag.
Oils, thicker emulsions and products with a thickener will not pass through the sprayer, or will only squirt from the nozzle. For such formulations, choose a bottle with a pump or a dropper.
Filling and dispensing
With each press, the sprayer dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of the contents, which corresponds to a fine mist on the face or skin without dripping. The actuator is operated from above with the index finger, and the clear overcap protects the nozzle from dust and accidental pressing in a bag. The sprayer has the same neck type as the bottle, and the thread is tightened by hand, without force.
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold under normal filling. Filled to the neck, it holds slightly more, but this difference serves as a reserve for the sprayer dip tube and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, so that the contents are not pushed out when the sprayer is screwed on.
Before assembling for the first time, check whether the sprayer dip tube reaches the bottom of the bottle. If it is longer and bends inside the bottle, shorten it with a straight cut using a sharp knife, so that the sprayer draws up the last few millilitres as well.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let them dry completely. Rinse the sprayer by immersing it in clean water or alcohol and pressing it several times, then blow it through by pressing it empty.
Aqueous products without a preservative, such as pure hydrolates or homemade toners, spoil just as quickly in a plastic bottle as in a glass one. The sprayer limits contact between the contents and your fingers, but preservation remains necessary, as with any other packaging.
The PET bottle is not intended for hot filling. Let hydrolates and solutions cool to room temperature before pouring them in. Undiluted essential oils, aroma compounds in high concentrations and aggressive solvents can damage the plastic over time, so they belong in this bottle only in finished, diluted formulations and after testing.
With your own ratio of alcohol to water, or with formulations containing a higher proportion of surfactants, let the filled bottle with the sprayer stand for several days and monitor the tightness of the thread, the quality of the mist and any changes in the contents.
After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The sprayer will last for several fillings if it is rinsed between them. For recycling, the PET bottle belongs with plastics; the sprayer combines polypropylene and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.
