Product description

The set of a 10 ml amber plastic bottle and a fine mist sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish is used for dispensing thin liquid products in a small pack. Amber PET dampens light, so the set suits contents that lose fragrance or colour in light: perfume samples, face and hair sprays, hydrolates, toners, hand fresheners and alcohol-based herbal sprays. The bottle is light and shatterproof, which matters in a handbag, when travelling or when sending test samples to customers. The glossy black and gold sprayer with a clear overcap gives the small pack the look of a finished product that holds up in retail as well.

How the set dispenses and seals

The sprayer disperses the contents into a cloud of fine droplets, so the product is applied evenly and without running. One press releases a small dose, so a 10 ml bottle lasts for several dozen applications. The dip tube of the sprayer is longer than the bottle.

Before first assembly, shorten the tube with scissors using a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom of the bottle. A tube that is too long bends inside the bottle, draws in air, and the sprayer then “spits” or does not dispense at all.

Tighten the sprayer until it stops, without force. The clear overcap protects the nozzle from dust and from accidental pressing in a bag. We recommend checking the leak-tightness with your specific formulation in advance: turn the filled bottle upside down, leave it for a while and then press the sprayer several times. For alcohol-based perfume contents it is worth repeating the test after a few days, because alcohol reveals any leak faster than water does.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The brimful capacity, that is, the physical volume up to the neck, is somewhat larger. The difference is a reserve for the tube and the valve of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows when the sprayer is screwed on, and the tube pushes part of the contents out.

What it is suitable for and what it is not

The sprayer works reliably with liquids of similar viscosity to water or alcohol. The set is therefore intended for water-based and alcohol-based products: toners, hydrolates, perfumes, facial mists, and cleaning sprays for yoga mats or brushes.

The sprayer does not disperse thick vegetable oils, serums with a thickener or emulsions. The mechanism clogs and dispenses a stream or nothing at all. For oil-based products, choose a bottle with a dropper or a pump.

The plastic bottle normally withstands diluted products with essential oils. With a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend filling a single bottle before a larger production run and checking the bottle wall, the seal and the nozzle after several weeks. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the bottle separately; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash and rinse the bottle and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then leave it to dry completely with the neck facing down. Rinse the sprayer with clean water or alcohol and pump it several times until it runs dry.
  • Reuse – the bottle and the sprayer can be used again after thorough cleaning. The fragrance of a perfume is difficult to remove from the tube and the nozzle, so when changing the contents expect a residual odour.
  • Heat – protect the bottle from heat and direct sunlight, fill it with cooled contents and do not leave it in the sun in a car.
  • Colour of the contents – the amber wall of the bottle hides the colour of the product, and the level is visible only against the light.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the sprayer of a combination of plastics and aluminium, so separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET dampens the transmission of light and slows down the fading of colour and the loss of fragrance of the contents. However, it does not replace dark storage; perfumes and products with essential oils should be kept out of direct sun even in an amber bottle. Compared with clear plastic, the difference in protection is noticeable, and the bottle stays light, so it also suits travel.
How full should a bottle with an 18/415 sprayer be filled?
Fill up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the neck. The space above the liquid level is needed by the tube and the valve of the sprayer and also serves as a reserve for the expansion of the contents in warm conditions. If you fill to the brim, the contents overflow around the thread when the sprayer is screwed on, and the outside of the bottle stays greasy or sticky.
Can oil be dispensed through the sprayer on a 10 ml bottle?
No, the sprayer is intended for liquids as thin as water or alcohol. It does not disperse vegetable oil, an oil serum or an emulsion into a mist; these come out as a stream and the mechanism gradually clogs. For oil-based products, a bottle with a dropper or a pump is suitable; keep the sprayer for toners, hydrolates, perfumes and alcohol-based sprays.
Is the plastic bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the 10 ml amber plastic bottle separately; the sprayer has no such declaration. If you need packaging for food contents, use a bottle with a closure that also has a declaration for food contact.
How do you clean the bottle with the sprayer, and can it be reused?
Yes, both parts can be used again after thorough cleaning. Wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning product, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry with the neck facing down. Pump clean water or alcohol through the sprayer until clear liquid comes out of the nozzle. The residual fragrance of a perfume in the tube is difficult to remove completely.
Why does the sprayer on a new bottle not spray?
The most common cause is the dip tube, which is longer than the bottle and bends inside, drawing in air. Shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom, and press the sprayer several times until the liquid is drawn up. The second cause is contents that are too thick, which the nozzle cannot disperse.
