Product description

The amber plastic medicine bottle with a black fine mist sprayer and a smoky overcap is a ready-made set for your own sprays, toners and hydrosols. The PET bottle with a volume of 115 ml is lightweight, does not break when dropped, and the amber colour filters light that would otherwise speed up the degradation of sensitive ingredients in the contents. The sprayer with an 18/415 neck finish fits the neck of the bottle exactly, so there is no need to look for a closure or test one separately.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The narrow neck of the medicine bottle is easy to fill from a beaker or through a funnel, and the clear smoky overcap protects the nozzle from dust when you carry the bottle in a bag.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial toners and hydrosols – thin water-based preparations that are sprayed directly onto the skin or onto a cotton pad.
  • Refreshing and setting sprays – light water-based or water-glycerine solutions that the sprayer disperses into a fine mist.
  • Hair sprays and leave-in conditioners – thin solutions and solubilised blends for the lengths of the hair.
  • Alcohol-based sprays for hands and body – thin alcohol solutions; the amber plastic also filters light, which helps with fragrance ingredients.
  • Travel size – the plastic bottle withstands transport in a handbag as well as in a suitcase.

Filling and dispensing

The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The space up to the neck is larger, and this difference serves as a reserve for the sprayer tube, the air above the liquid and the slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you filled the bottle up to the neck, the contents would overflow once you screwed on the sprayer.

The sprayer tube reaches all the way to the bottom of the bottle, so you can use up the contents almost without any residue. One press releases approximately 0.12 ml of the preparation, that is, a fine mist suitable for both face and hair. For sprays with active ingredients, you can use this to estimate how many doses correspond to the recommended application amount.

Before first use, take the set apart, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Moisture left in the tube would get into the preparation and dilute the preservative system.

Good to know

The sprayer is intended for water-based and alcohol-based solutions and thin solubilised blends. Thick liquids, oils and emulsions clog the nozzle or come out of it as a stream rather than a mist. For oil-based or thickened preparations, test how the sprayer behaves on a small amount beforehand.

PET withstands water, glycerine, hydrosols and common water-based preparations. Undiluted essential oils and some solvents can attack the plastic over the long term, so fragrance ingredients are filled into plastic packaging only when already dispersed in a water or alcohol phase at a low concentration. With a higher proportion of fragrance compounds, test the compatibility of your formulation with the packaging on a single piece.

Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The sprayer does not have such a certificate, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

The bottle and the sprayer can be reused after thorough washing and drying. When you change the contents, rinse the tube and the nozzle with clean water or alcohol so that residues of the previous preparation do not get into the new one. Before recycling, separate the two parts, as the bottle and the sprayer are made of different plastics.

You will find other closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made packaging and closure combinations, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the passage of light and slows down the degradation of light-sensitive ingredients. For hydrosols, toners with plant extracts or sprays with fragrance ingredients, this is an advantage over clear packaging. The bottle does not offer complete protection like opaque packaging, so keep the finished preparation out of direct sunlight.
Can I put oil in a plastic medicine bottle with a sprayer?
The sprayer is intended for thin water-based and alcohol-based liquids and works only to a limited extent with oils. Oil comes out of the nozzle as a stream rather than a mist, and thicker oils can clog the nozzle. For oil-based preparations, a medicine bottle with a dropper or with a pump is more suitable, and you will find these as separate combinations.
Is the medicine bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not have one. The whole combination is therefore declared for cosmetic products. For food use, the bottle needs to be combined with a closure whose parameters state that it is suitable for food contact.
How much liquid fits into a 115 ml plastic medicine bottle?
The bottle is designed to be filled up to the nominal volume of 115 ml. The space up to the neck is slightly larger, but this reserve belongs to the sprayer tube, the air above the liquid and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you filled it to the brim, the preparation would overflow once you screwed on the sprayer, and the nozzle could draw up the liquid unevenly.
How do I clean the plastic medicine bottle and sprayer before reusing them?
Wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. Pump the sprayer first in clean water and then in alcohol to clean both the tube and the nozzle. Let both parts dry completely and only then fill the bottle with a new preparation, otherwise the remaining moisture will dilute the preservative system.
Can I put a spray with essential oils into a PET medicine bottle?
Yes, if the essential oils in the formulation are dispersed in a water or alcohol phase at a low concentration, for example with the help of a solubiliser. Undiluted essential oils and high concentrations of fragrance compounds can attack PET over the long term. For formulations with a higher proportion of fragrance ingredients, test the compatibility with the packaging on a single piece before you fill a larger batch.
