Plastic medicine bottle, amber, black and gold fine mist sprayer, 115 ml

A ready-made kit for your own sprays: an amber PET medicine bottle with a volume of 115 ml and a matching sprayer in a glossy black and gold finish. The amber tint of the plastic reduces light exposure, so the bottle also suits contents with plant extracts or essential oils, which light gradually degrades. PET is lightweight and does not break when dropped, which you will appreciate for sprays carried in a handbag, kept in the bathroom or taken on trips.

The kit is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The sprayer does not have one, so the kit as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What the kit is suitable for

The sprayer dispenses a fine mist, so it is designed for thin, free-flowing contents:

Facial toners and mists – hydrosols, toners with glycerine or a low dose of active ingredients, refreshing facial mists.
Hair sprays – leave-in conditioner sprays, shine sprays or detangling sprays, hair mists with hydrosol.
Perfumed waters and body mists – alcohol-based and water-alcohol compositions with a fragrance component. With a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking in advance how PET behaves with your specific recipe.
Refreshing hand sprays – cosmetic alcohol-based sprays that are applied without touching.
Scented household sprays – fabric or air fresheners, provided it is a thin water-alcohol mixture without oil.

Thick serums, emulsions and pure oils do not belong in this combination. The sprayer cannot atomise them into a mist and the nozzle becomes clogged.

Nominal and total volume

The figure 115 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim of the neck is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the tube and the sprayer mechanism, which takes up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill up to the nominal volume. If filled up to the neck, the contents would be pushed out through the tube when the sprayer is screwed on, or the tightness of the closure would be reduced.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Wash the bottle and the sprayer before use, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. After disinfection, pump pure alcohol through the sprayer several times and then water, so that no residues remain in the tube.

The sprayer needs a few presses before it draws the contents up the tube and starts dispensing mist. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which helps to estimate how many applications the customer gets from one filling.

Heat and filling. PET is not designed for hot filling. Let the formulation cool to room temperature and only then pour it in. Do not leave the filled bottle in direct sunlight or near a heat source. The plastic may change shape and the contents will lose stability.

Alcohol, essential oils and solvents. Common water-alcohol toners and perfumed waters are usually tolerated well by PET. For recipes with a high proportion of essential oils, pure alcohol or solvents, we recommend filling one bottle as a trial and checking the wall of the packaging, the odour and the clarity of the contents after a few weeks. The sprayer combines PP plastic with an aluminium overcap. The glossy surface should therefore not be soaked in alcohol for long periods or cleaned with abrasive products.

The sprayer does not have a food-contact certificate. If you need the bottle for food purposes, use it on its own with another suitable closure, not with this kit.

Reuse. After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle and the sprayer can be filled again. It is advisable to keep to the same type of contents, so that fragrances and fragrance residues are not carried over into the next recipe. A worn sprayer that no longer dispenses evenly simply needs to be replaced with a new one with the same thread.

Other closures. The bottle has a neck with the thread stated in the parameters. You will find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Recycling. The bottle is made of PET with material code 1 and belongs in plastic waste. Unscrew the sprayer before disposal; it combines several materials and does not belong in the PET stream.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?

Yes, the amber tint of PET significantly reduces the passage of light and slows down light-induced changes in the contents. It is therefore suitable for toners and mists with plant extracts, hydrosols or essential oils. However, tinted plastic does not provide complete darkness like opaque packaging, so it is advisable to store the finished spray out of direct sunlight.

Can oil or serum be poured into a bottle with a sprayer?

No, the kit with a sprayer is intended for thin water-based and alcohol-based contents. The sprayer cannot atomise pure oils, thick serums and emulsions into a mist; it dispenses them in drops and the nozzle quickly becomes clogged. A bottle with a dropper or a pump is more suitable for oil products.

How much liquid should I pour into a 115 ml medicine bottle with a sprayer?

Fill up to the nominal volume of 115 ml, below the rim of the neck. The space above this level serves as a reserve for the tube and the body of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the tube when the sprayer is screwed on, or start to leak through the thread.

Is a plastic medicine bottle with a sprayer suitable for food?

The kit as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the amber PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not have such a certificate. The kit is declared suitable for cosmetic products. For filling food, use the bottle with another suitable closure.

Can a PET medicine bottle withstand perfumed water with alcohol?

Common water-alcohol toners, facial mists and perfumed waters are usually tolerated by PET without problems. For recipes with a high concentration of essential oils, pure alcohol or solvents, we recommend a trial filling and checking the packaging after several weeks. Discolouration of the wall, a plastic odour or cloudiness of the contents indicate that the recipe does not belong in PET.

How do I clean the medicine bottle and sprayer before reuse?

Wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it, disinfect it with alcohol and let it dry upside down. Pump clean water through the sprayer, then alcohol, and finally let it dry, so that no residues of the previous contents remain in the tube and mechanism. Do not wash the glossy overcap with abrasive products; it would get scratched.
