Product description
An amber plastic medicine bottle with a capacity of 115 ml and a white fine mist sprayer make a ready-to-use set for water-based and alcohol-based preparations applied as a fine mist. Amber PET filters light, so toners with plant extracts or hydrosols keep better in it than in clear plastic. The bottle is light and unbreakable, so it also suits products that the customer carries in a bag or uses in the bathroom. The sprayer with an 18/410 neck finish fits directly on the bottle neck, and there is nothing else to buy.
The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, but the sprayer has no such assessment, so the set should not be used for food.
What it is suitable for
- Face toners and hydrosols – the sprayer disperses the liquid into a fine mist, which is applied without your hands touching the contents.
- Hair sprays and waters – light liquid preparations for refreshing hair or the scalp, without thickeners.
- Alcohol-based preparations – perfume waters and tinctures for the skin, within the range that the plastic tolerates.
- Room sprays – fresheners for textiles or air, on a water or alcohol base.
- Samples and travel sizes – a volume of 115 ml is enough for trips, and the packaging does not break if dropped.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is designed with normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is always slightly larger. This reserve is needed for the sprayer dip tube, which displaces part of the volume, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal 115 ml, not to the brim. Overfilling results in overflow when the sprayer is screwed on and in a poorer seal.
The sprayer dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, trim it with a diagonal cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The diagonal cut prevents the tube from sticking to the bottom and allows the contents to be sprayed almost to the end.
How the sprayer dispenses
One press releases approximately 0.07 ml of liquid. For a toner, this corresponds to one spray on the face, while textile sprays need several presses. The head is made of PP and shaped for a plastic bottle. When screwing it on, tighten the sprayer by hand, not with a tool, so that the thread is not damaged.
The sprayer is intended for liquids with low viscosity. Preparations with a gel consistency, with a higher proportion of oils or with undissolved particles block the nozzle or do not pass through it at all. For blends with a low proportion of oil and a solubiliser, we recommend testing the function first.
Good to know
Before first filling, the bottle and the sprayer are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Moisture in the packaging is the most common reason why a water-based preparation spoils sooner than expected. Residues of alcohol from disinfection do not affect alcohol-based preparations, while for water-based products without alcohol thorough drying is necessary.
The packaging can be reused if you clean it between fillings and remove residues of the previous contents from the tube and the nozzle. Rinse the sprayer with a few presses of clean water and then of alcohol, otherwise residues settle in the nozzle and the shape of the mist changes.
Both PET and PP are plastics. For preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils, pure solvents or concentrated alcohol, we recommend testing the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation in a small quantity and checking whether the plastic turns cloudy, softens or changes the scent of the contents.
The bottle is not suitable for hot filling. Let the contents cool to room temperature before pouring, as heat deforms PET. Finished products are stored away from direct sunlight. The amber shade dampens light, but it does not replace a dark place.
Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations of packaging and closure can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend testing the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
After use, the PET bottle and the PP sprayer are separated, and each of them belongs in plastic recycling according to its material marking.
