Product description

An amber plastic medicine bottle with a volume of 115 ml and a black and gold glossy pump with a smoky overcap make a ready-to-use set for serums, facial and hair oils, or light emulsions. The bottle is made of PET; it is lightweight and shatterproof. The amber colour reduces exposure to light, which would gradually degrade the contents. The pump delivers a small dose with each press, so it suits products that are applied by the drop or in a thin layer.

The set is intended for cosmetic use. The bottle has a declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products and, separately, a certificate for direct contact with food. The pump has no such declaration, so the set is not offered for food purposes. We recommend checking the suitability of the pump with your specific formulation before filling a larger batch.

What the set is suitable for

  • Serums and concentrates – a dose of approximately 0.14 ml per press corresponds to the usual amount applied to the face or décolleté.
  • Facial, hair and massage oils – the oil is dispensed without pouring and without your fingers touching the contents.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – thinner creams and lotions that the dip tube can draw up come out evenly and the neck stays clean.
  • Hair tonic or scalp serum – a small dose can be applied directly between strands of hair.

Thicker creams and balms may not pass through the pump. With such formulations, fill a test bottle first and check that the contents are drawn up without problems.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 115 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger. The difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume. If it were filled to the brim, the contents would overflow when the pump is screwed on and the dip tube might not submerge properly.

Using the pump

The pump is screwed onto the thread of the bottle and the dip tube reaches almost to the bottom. When using it for the first time, press the pump several times until the dip tube fills and the contents begin to come out. The smoky overcap protects the head from dust and accidental pressing during transport. It is removed before use and put back on after applying the product.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water can trigger microbial spoilage of the product, especially in anhydrous oil blends without a preservative.

Good to know

PET withstands common cosmetic bases, but the bottle should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals or heat. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, we recommend checking how the packaging behaves with the finished product, ideally with a longer test on a single bottle under normal storage conditions.

The pump is a combination of PP and aluminium. With products that have a low pH or contain ingredients that react with metals, watch whether the colour or scent of the contents changes over time.

Once empty, both the bottle and the pump can be washed and used again. The pump is rinsed by placing the dip tube in warm water with a little surfactant, pumping it several times and then rinsing it in the same way with clean water. For recycling, the bottle is handed in as PET plastic, while the pump contains both plastic and aluminium.

Do not fill the bottle up to the brim of the neck. The reserve above the nominal volume is needed for the pump and for the expansion of the contents, otherwise the product will overflow when the pump is screwed on.

You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you build your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET bottle reduces the light reaching the contents and so slows down the changes in an oil or serum that light causes. It is not a complete barrier, so the product should still be stored out of direct sunlight. For light-sensitive ingredients, such as some vitamins or unrefined oils, dark packaging is more suitable than clear.
How much product does the pump deliver per press?
The pump delivers approximately 0.14 ml per full press. This amount corresponds to a usual dose of facial serum or oil; for larger areas of the body, press it several times. The actual dose also depends on the viscosity of the contents and may be slightly smaller with thicker formulations, so check it with your specific product.
Can I fill this set with edible oil or syrup?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle has a certificate for direct contact with food, while the pump has no such declaration. The set is therefore intended for cosmetic use, for example for facial and massage oils or serums.
Is the PET bottle with a pump suitable for products with essential oils?
With a higher concentration of essential oils, or with pure essential oils, we recommend checking the behaviour of the packaging first. The bottle should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals. Fill one bottle, leave it for several weeks and watch for any change in the appearance of the packaging, its tightness or the scent of the contents.
Can the bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, once empty, both the bottle and the pump can be washed and refilled. It is enough to wash the bottle with warm water and surfactant and disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, while the pump is pumped first with water and surfactant and then with clean water. Both parts must dry completely before the next filling.
