Product description

This amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 10 ml and a glossy black and gold pump is designed for small volumes of liquid preparations that are dispensed in small amounts: facial serums, oil blends, light fluids and concentrates of active ingredients. The amber colour of the bottle reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oils and with active ingredients sensitive to light. PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, so the bottle can withstand being carried in a handbag as well as travelling.

A pump with a smoky clear overcap gives a small package the look of a finished product. The set is therefore often used for samples and travel packs, for serums in small batches and for testing a new formulation, where it does not pay to fill a large container.

What the set is suitable for

  • Serums and concentrates – the pump dispenses a small dose, so not too much of a concentrated preparation is used at once.
  • Face and beard oils – the dark packaging protects oils from light and dispensing in small amounts makes the contents last longer.
  • Light emulsions and fluids – thinner textures pass through the pump’s dip tube without problems.
  • Customer samples – a volume of 10 ml is enough to try the product and the packaging looks professional.

Pumps with a dip tube are designed for liquid and semi-liquid preparations. They cannot dispense thick creams, butters or balms; a jar or tube is more suitable for those.

How the pump works

One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of the contents. The actual amount depends on the viscosity of the preparation, so before handing the product to a customer it is worth pressing the pump several times and measuring the dose.

The pump’s dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before the first assembly, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that its end reaches just to the bottom of the bottle but does not bend. A tube that is too long will kink inside the packaging and the pump will stop drawing up the contents. The smoky overcap is placed on from above and covers the opening of the pump.

Shorten the dip tube gradually and after each cut check whether the pump can be fitted and draws up the contents freely. Once cut off, the length cannot be restored.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brim-full volume is larger. The difference provides room for the dip tube and the submerged part of the pump and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents will overflow through the thread when the pump is screwed on and soil the neck.

Good to know

  • Contact with cosmetics and food – the bottle itself has a declaration of suitability for cosmetic products and a certificate for direct contact with food. The pump does not have such a declaration, so the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food and suitability for cosmetics applies only to the bottle. We recommend checking the compatibility of the pump with your specific formulation in a trial pack.
  • Material and contents – do not expose the PET bottle to aggressive chemicals. With preparations containing a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, check before a larger batch that the material does not turn matte or soften and that the contents do not discolour.
  • Preparation before filling – before first use, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the tube would dilute the first doses.
  • Heat – hot filling is not suitable for PET. Let emulsions and oils cool to room temperature and only then fill.
  • Closures – for the same neck type, Handymade offers ready-made combinations with other closures as well as closures sold separately. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET, the pump combines PP and aluminium. Before disposal, unscrew the pump and dispose of it separately so that the bottle can be recycled as pure plastic.

When shipping and sending samples, place the set in a sealable bag so that any leakage through the pump does not damage the rest of the shipment.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the transmission of light and slows down changes in the contents caused by light. The packaging is not completely opaque to light, so even an amber bottle should be stored out of direct sunlight. For oils and serums with sensitive active ingredients, dark packaging is a better choice than clear.
Is a plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump suitable for thick creams?
No, a pump with a dip tube dispenses only liquid and semi-liquid preparations. Thick creams, butters and balms cannot be drawn up by it and the mechanism will become blocked. The set is designed for serums, oils, fluids and light emulsions; for thicker textures, choose a jar or tube.
Can a plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, once empty, the bottle and the pump can be washed, disinfected and refilled. Rinse the tube and the inner mechanism with warm water and pump it several times so that no oil residues remain in them. If you change the formulation, check that the previous contents have been washed out completely.
How much does one press of the black and gold pump dispense?
One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. The actual amount varies with the density of the preparation; thinner serums flow more easily than oils with a higher viscosity. Before writing the instructions for use, we recommend measuring the dose with your specific formulation.
Can I fill the plastic pharmaceutical bottle and pump with homemade oils or food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the pump does not have such a declaration. For food use, choose a bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate; the set with this pump is intended for cosmetics.
Why does the pump not draw up the contents after filling?
The most common cause is a tube that has not been primed or has been shortened incorrectly. After filling and screwing on the pump, press it several times in a row until the tube fills. If the tube touches the bottom and bends, shorten it so that it ends just above the bottom.
