Product description

A small pack for samples, travel doses and trial formulations: an amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 10 ml and a black aluminium cap. The amber colour reduces the light reaching the contents, and PET is lightweight and does not break when dropped. The set is therefore suited to small volumes that need protection from light and should be easy to carry: samples of serums and facial oils, travel packs, oil blends or perfume oils.

The cap is a simple screw cap without a dispensing insert. The contents are poured out by tilting the bottle, which is sufficient for dispensing thicker oils and serums. Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the declarations of conformity are available with the product.

What it is suitable for

Samples and testers – the small volume allows you to hand out or try a new formulation without using much raw material.
Facial and hair oils – oils prone to oxidation last longer in dark packaging without any change in fragrance.
Serums and concentrates – both water-based and oil-based, as long as they are dispensed by tilting or decanted into larger packaging.
Travel packs – a shatterproof, lightweight bottle can be carried in a cosmetic bag.

Bottle and cap together

The threads of the bottle and the cap are matched, so the set seals properly without any further matching of parts. The cap contains a polyethylene liner (EPE) that sits on the rim of the neck and seals the contents. Tighten by hand, without force. An aluminium cap can become deformed if overtightened, and it then seals less well.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended to hold in normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger, and the difference provides a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Overfilling leads to leakage when the bottle is closed.

If you want to combine the bottle with a different closure, choose according to the neck type given in the parameters. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Food and cosmetics

The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The aluminium cap does not.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products and is not approved for contact with food. Do not use it for homemade oils or syrups.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water can compromise preservation in a leave-on product.

PET does not tolerate high temperatures or aggressive chemicals. Let hot phases cool down before filling. For undiluted essential oils, solvents or products with a high alcohol content, check compatibility on a single bottle before you fill the whole batch.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. At the end of its life, the PET bottle goes in plastics recycling and the aluminium cap in metals recycling; separate them before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?

Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the passage of light and slows the light-induced degradation of sensitive ingredients. It is therefore suitable for oils prone to oxidation and for serums with light-sensitive active ingredients. However, the bottle is not completely opaque, so store filled packs away from direct sunlight.

How much does a 10 ml bottle actually hold?

The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not up to the neck. The physical volume up to the brim is somewhat larger, and the difference serves as a reserve for the cap with its liner and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it is filled right up to the brim, the contents overflow when the bottle is closed and soil the thread, which worsens the seal.

Is the set with the aluminium cap suitable for food?

No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The amber PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food, but the aluminium cap does not. For cosmetics, the set is declared suitable. If you need the bottle for a food purpose, combine it with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.

Can I fill a plastic pharmaceutical bottle with essential oil or alcohol?

PET usually tolerates diluted blends, facial oils and common serums, but for undiluted essential oils and products with a high alcohol content, check compatibility first. Concentrated essential oils and solvents can strain the plastic over the long term. So leave one filled bottle to stand and watch for any change in the appearance of the plastic, the tightness or the fragrance of the contents.

How do I close and clean the aluminium cap correctly?

Tighten the cap by hand without force; the EPE liner sits on the rim of the neck and seals the contents. If overtightened, the aluminium can become deformed and the seal worsens. Before reuse, wash the cap, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry. Do not remove the liner, as it could be damaged.
