Product description
This small amber PET pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 10 ml is supplied as a set with a white tamper-evident cap, so you only need to fill and close it. The amber plastic dampens light, so it suits contents that are sensitive to light: tinctures, herbal drops, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, samples of serums or facial oils. The tamper-evident ring on the cap shows on first opening that nobody has opened the contents before. This is useful when selling small packs and when handing out samples.
PET is light and unbreakable, which you will appreciate when posting samples, travelling and in the workshop, where glass has little chance when dropped on a tiled floor. The bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the whole set also has a certificate for direct contact with food. The same pharmaceutical bottle can therefore serve in a cosmetics workshop and in the kitchen.
What the set is suitable for
- Tinctures and herbal drops – the amber wall limits how much light reaches the contents, and the small volume suits the usual drop-by-drop dispensing.
- Essential oil blends – 10 ml is a usual volume for a finished blend for a diffuser or for dilution in a carrier oil. For undiluted essential oils, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic with the specific blend first.
- Samples of serums and facial oils – an unbreakable bottle with a tamper-evident cap suits test packs that you send to customers or enclose with an order.
- Food use – the certificate for the whole set also allows you to fill the pharmaceutical bottle with a homemade flavoured oil, herbal syrup or infusion for kitchen use.
Filling and volume
Nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended under normal filling. The physical volume up to the rim of the neck is slightly larger. This difference forms a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Therefore, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the rim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed into the thread when the cap is screwed on, the cap does not seal and the pharmaceutical bottle becomes sticky on the outside.
The neck with an 18 mm thread is narrow, so the contents are best filled with a small funnel, a syringe or a dropper. Thicker oils pass through a syringe faster and without overflowing the neck.
When filling a larger number of pharmaceutical bottles in series, prepare a syringe set to a volume of 10 ml. You will then dispense the same amount into each bottle and will not need to check the level.
Tamper-evident cap
The white plastic cap screws onto the neck, and its lower tamper-evident ring holds on the thread. When the cap is unscrewed for the first time, the ring separates from the cap and stays on the neck. The customer can thus see that the pack has not been opened. After opening, the cap closes as an ordinary screw closure and holds just as tightly, only without the indication of first opening. The tamper-evident ring is single-use and cannot be restored.
Put the cap on only once the bottle is filled and dry on the outside. Oil on the thread worsens both the tightening and the seal.
Preparation and reuse
Before the first filling, wash the pharmaceutical bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely upside down. Residual water in the neck would dilute the contents and, with anhydrous products, could cause cloudiness or spoilage.
The bottle can be reused after washing. The cap can be too, but once the tamper-evident ring has been torn off, it no longer indicates first opening, which should be considered for samples intended for customers.
PET does not tolerate heat. Do not fill the pharmaceutical bottle with hot contents, do not boil it and do not sterilise it in an oven, as it will deform. Aggressive chemicals and concentrated solvents do not belong in PET either. For alcoholic solutions with a high ethanol content, we recommend checking the behaviour of the packaging on a single bottle first.
Good to know
The bottle and the cap are made of PET, so at the end of their life they go into separated plastic waste collection without separating the materials. We recommend testing the specific formulation with the packaging for at least several weeks before you start selling it in this pack.
The set is sold as a ready-made pair. You will find other closures with the same neck type and further ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you combine the bottle with a different closure yourself, check the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific filling.
