Product description
Plastic bottle, vial, brown, with white spray pump, 10 ml
Complete set of a small brown PET vial and white spray pump for plastic bottles. Ideal wherever you need to apply liquid contents as a fine mist while protecting them from light: trial and travel-size facial tonics, hydrolats, hair sprays, perfume waters or hand sanitisers. The brown colour of the bottle reduces light exposure and helps preserve the stability of more sensitive ingredients. PET is lightweight and shatter-resistant, so the packaging can handle a handbag, a backpack and shipping to customers.
The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. It is not intended for food contact as a complete set.
Key features of the set
- Light protection – the brown bottle reduces light exposure to the contents. You will appreciate this with hydrolats, vitamin solutions and perfume compositions, which change scent or colour more quickly in light.
- Fine dosing – the spray pump releases a small, even dose with each press; the contents are applied as a mist rather than drops. For tonics and refreshing sprays this is more practical than pouring into the palm.
- Low weight and durability – PET does not shatter on impact; the packaging is suitable for travel, a handbag and samples sent by post.
- Small volume – sufficient for a sample, a trial fill or a travel dose of a product you use from a larger container at home.
- Refillable – both bottle and spray pump can be disassembled, washed and reused for the same type of contents.
What the set is suitable for
Works best with thin aqueous and alcoholic contents: facial and hair tonics, hydrolats, refreshing sprays with a delicate scent, alcohol-based perfume waters, alcohol-based hand sanitisers, make-up setting sprays or light spray serums without thickeners. The mechanical spray pump is designed for low viscosity. Thicker serums, gels or emulsions will not pass through it or will spray unevenly.
With oily contents, viscosity is decisive: very thin oils and oil blends can be handled by the spray pump, heavier oils and butters cannot. Before filling a larger batch, test one unit with the specific formulation.
Nominal and total volume
For every container we distinguish between nominal volume and total volume to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity the container is designed to hold under normal filling conditions, and that is what we state in the name. The total volume to the neck is physically larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the dip tube and the spray mechanism and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The container should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you overfill the bottle, the contents will spill through the neck after screwing on the spray pump, or remain in the thread, and the packaging will not seal.
The spray pump dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, trim it with sharp scissors at an angle so that it ends just above the bottom of the bottle. A long tube will bend inside the small container and the spray pump will then draw in air instead of contents.
What is good to know
Before first filling, wash the container with warm water, optionally sanitise it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. Residual water in the dip tube or bottle would dilute the contents and, for products without preservation, shorten their usability.
Essential oils and solvents at higher concentrations put stress on the plastic. For sprays with a higher proportion of essential oils, strong solvents and contents with significantly acidic or alkaline pH, verify the behaviour of the container with the finished formulation before filling a larger quantity.
Aqueous contents without preservation, such as pure hydrolats, behave better in a spray than in an open container because the contents do not come into contact with fingers. The spray pump does not, however, fully seal the container from air, so we do not recommend omitting preservation in aqueous formulations.
Labelling is straightforward on the cylindrical bottle. With the small diameter, bear in mind that the label must wrap precisely, otherwise it will peel at the joint.
Recycling: the bottle is made of PET and the spray pump of PP; both parts belong in sorted plastics. Before disposal, empty the container and unscrew the spray pump so that the materials can be separated.
The complete set is not approved for food contact. Only the bottle individually holds a food-contact certificate; the spray pump does not. If you need a spray for food use, for example for kitchen oils, choose a closure with a food-contact certificate.
