Product description

This amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and a mechanical fine mist sprayer is a ready-to-use set for small quantities of spray products. The amber colour reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so it is also suitable for compositions with essential oils, plant extracts or other light-sensitive ingredients. The PET bottle is lightweight and does not break if dropped. The glossy white and silver sprayer gives the product an appearance that allows it to be sold or given as a gift without any further changes.

The set is intended for cosmetic products. Both parts, the bottle and the sprayer, are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle has a separate certificate for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not have one. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial toners and hydrolates – the small volume is convenient for samples, travel or testing a new recipe before making a larger batch.
  • Refreshing face and body sprays – water-based solutions with active ingredients, aloe or glycerine, applied without your hands coming into contact with the contents.
  • Perfume waters and body mists – alcohol-based compositions in a travel size, or fragrance samples for customers.
  • Hair sprays and leave-in conditioners – thin water-based or water-alcohol formulations that are meant to create an even mist on the hair.
  • Brush cleaning sprays and small hygiene sprays – alcohol-based solutions for your handbag or make-up bag.

Filling and dispensing

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The physical volume of the bottle up to the neck is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the sprayer tube, the closure and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled only up to the nominal volume. If it is overfilled, part of the contents is pushed out through the thread when the sprayer is screwed on, and the bottle seals less well.

The sprayer is mechanical, works without a propellant and releases a small measured dose with each press. When using it for the first time, prime it by pressing it several times until the tube and the pump fill with the contents. The sprayer is screwed onto the neck and tightened by hand; no tools are needed.

The sprayer tube is longer than the bottle and bends at the bottom. Shorten it with an angled cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The angled cut prevents the tube from sticking to the bottom and allows almost all of the contents to be used up.

The sprayer is designed for water-based and alcohol-based solutions with low viscosity. Thicker mixtures, gels and vegetable oils are dispensed unevenly or not at all. For an oil serum or a mixture with a higher proportion of oil, check beforehand that the sprayer produces a mist, or choose a closure with a dropper or a pump.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water would dilute the contents and, in cosmetics with weaker preservation, would increase the risk of microbial contamination.

PET withstands water-based solutions, glycerine and common alcohol-based compositions. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or containing solvents, run a test in a single bottle. After a few weeks, check whether the wall has become cloudy, softened or deformed. Do not expose the plastic to higher temperatures; let hot products cool down before filling.

Besides plastic, the sprayer also contains an aluminium part. With acidic, low-pH toners or salt solutions, monitor whether the dispensing changes over time and whether the contents become cloudy. Check compatibility with your specific formulation.

The packaging can be reused. After it has been emptied, wash it with warm water, pump clean water through the sprayer, then ethanol, and leave it to dry. When you change the recipe, this prevents fragrances from mixing.

The neck of the bottle has an 18 mm thread. You can find closures with the same type of neck and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation.

The PET bottle is recyclable. The sprayer combines polypropylene and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before disposal and hand it in according to the sorting rules in your municipality.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces light transmission and slows down changes in the colour and scent of light-sensitive ingredients. It does not block light completely, so for longer storage keep filled bottles out of direct sunlight. For samples and travel sizes of toners, hydrolates or perfume waters, this protection is sufficient.
How full should the 10 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a sprayer be filled?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The space above this level is a reserve for the tube and the pump of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle pushes the contents out through the thread and seals less well.
Is the pharmaceutical bottle and sprayer set also suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle has a separate certificate for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not have one. Both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, so the set is intended for cosmetic sprays, toners and perfume waters.
Can oil or an oil serum be dispensed through the sprayer?
As a rule, no. The mechanical sprayer is designed for thin water-based and alcohol-based solutions. Vegetable oils and thicker mixtures are dispensed unevenly through the pump, or cannot be pumped through the nozzle at all. With a smaller proportion of oil, run a test in a single bottle; for pure oils, a dropper or a pump on the same neck is more suitable.
How do I clean a plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a sprayer for reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water, pump clean water through the sprayer, then ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, and leave both parts to dry completely. The alcohol removes residues of the previous fragrance and also disinfects the pump. Before filling again, check that the sprayer dispenses evenly after several presses.
Does the PET bottle withstand alcohol-based and essential oil compositions?
PET withstands common alcohol-based perfume waters and toners containing ethanol without problems. With a high concentration of essential oils or with solvents, run a test in a single bottle and, after a few weeks, check whether the wall has become cloudy or softened. Let hot products cool down before filling; the plastic is not designed for higher temperatures.
