Product description
A spray bottle for nasal application solves a simple task: to fill a small amount of a thin, water-based preparation and apply it in precisely measured doses of a fine mist. The set consists of a brown PET bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml and a nasal spray dispenser. It is suitable for hydrosol mists for the face and décolleté area, refreshing skin sprays in travel size, or for samples to test a formula before producing a larger batch. The brown colouring of the plastic filters light, so light-sensitive contents such as hydrosols, plant extracts and aqueous solutions of active ingredients remain stable longer than in a clear container. PET is lightweight and shatterproof, making the set suitable for handbags and travel. The set as a whole is declared as suitable for cosmetics; the bottle alone additionally holds a food-contact certificate.
Key benefits of the set
- Light protection – brown plastic reduces light transmission and helps protect hydrosols, plant extracts and aqueous vitamin solutions from rapid degradation and loss of fragrance.
- Metered dosing – each press releases the same small dose of fine mist (exact value in the specifications). The contents do not spill or leak, and application is hygienic.
- Extended applicator tip – the dispenser can be directed precisely to the area of application, which is useful for scalp sprays or small skin surface areas.
- Lightweight and shatterproof packaging – PET will not break on impact, and the set fits easily in carry-on luggage.
- Small volume – suitable for samples, test batches and preparations that are consumed quickly after opening and where large bottles make no sense.
How to work with the set
The bottle is best filled with a thin liquid using a small funnel or needleless syringe so the neck does not get dirty and the thread remains clean. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount for which the container is designed under normal filling conditions. The total capacity up to the neck is greater, and this difference provides a reserve for the dispenser tube, for the air above the liquid level, and for slight expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If the bottle is filled to the very top, the contents are pushed out when the dispenser is screwed on and leak into the thread.
The suction tube of the dispenser is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, trim it with a sharp knife or scissors at an angle so that the end just touches the bottom without bending. The angled cut prevents the tube from pressing flat against the bottom and stopping suction.
After screwing on the dispenser, the pump needs to be activated by pressing several times without liquid until the tube and chamber fill and a uniform mist begins to emerge. The dispenser works only with low-viscosity liquids – water, hydrosols, alcoholic solutions, toner. Oils, gel-consistency serums and emulsions will not form a mist; they will clog the pump or produce a stream instead of a dispersed mist.
Suitable for preparations such as
- Hydrosol facial mists – lavender, rose or chamomile hydrosol in travel size; brown plastic protects their fragrance and active compounds.
- Refreshing skin and hair sprays – thin aqueous solutions with glycerin, aloe vera juice or panthenol for quick refreshment during the day.
- Aqueous solutions of active ingredients – for example low-percentage solutions of niacinamide or hyaluronic acid in dilute form, applied by spraying.
- Samples and test batches – a small amount of preparation to verify stability, fragrance or behaviour on skin before producing a larger volume.
- Scalp sprays – thin hydro-alcoholic tonics with plant extracts that, thanks to the extended tip, can be applied directly between the hair.
The set is intended for cosmetic preparations. Preparations intended for nasal application, such as saline or sea-water solutions, are not cosmetics and are governed by their own regulations. Before filling this container with such products, the requirements for the specific product type must be verified.
What is good to know
Before first use, both the bottle and the dispenser should be washed with warm water, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and left to dry completely. The dispenser is rinsed by submerging the tube in a disinfecting solution, pumping the solution through several times, then pumping clean water through in the same way. PET is not suitable for sterilisation by boiling or for filling with hot contents – fill only with preparations cooled to room temperature.
Concentrated essential oils, undiluted alcohol and organic solvents may damage the plastic of the bottle and the dispenser parts, or cause the container to become cloudy and brittle. Standard hydrosol and hydro-alcoholic sprays with essential oils at typical concentrations are fine. For atypical formulations, we recommend verifying compatibility on a single unit before a larger filling run.
The dispenser contains a metal spring and a glass ball, which form the closing valve of the pump. With strongly acidic or saline solutions, it is recommended to monitor whether the mechanism changes in performance over time. Aqueous preparations without preservatives will not last long in a spray bottle. The dispenser does limit contact of the contents with air, but does not replace a preservation system.
Repeated use is possible if the set is disassembled, thoroughly washed and disinfected. When switching to a different type of preparation, we recommend replacing at least the dispenser, as residues of the previous fill remain in the tube and pump chamber. The bottle is made of PET and can be recycled as plastic; the dispenser is composed of multiple materials including metal and glass, so it should be unscrewed and disposed of separately before disposal.
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the bottle specifications, and other ready-made container-and-closure combinations, are available in the Handymade range. For custom combinations, we recommend verifying seal integrity, dosing performance and container behaviour with the specific formulation.
