Product description
A clear 100 ml PET bottle and a black lotion pump make a ready-to-fill set for creams, body lotions, facial emulsions and thinner serums. The contents are dispensed by pressing the pump, so nobody needs to touch the cream with their fingers and no dirt gets into the bottle during use. The clear material shows the colour of the product and how much of it is left. PET is light and unbreakable, which you will appreciate for products that travel in a bag, to the bathroom or to customers by post.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle itself also has a certificate for direct food contact, but the pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.
How the set works
The pump screws onto the neck of the bottle and the dip tube reaches almost to the bottom, so nearly all of the contents can be used up. One press releases approximately 0.12 ml of product; if a customer needs more, they press several times. The small dose also helps with economical use, which is particularly handy for products with more expensive active ingredients.
The pump works with a consistency that can be drawn up through the tube. It handles low to medium viscosity emulsions, gel serums and liquid creams best. Thick ointments, balms and creams with a high proportion of solid waxes are difficult or impossible to draw through the pump.
Before filling a larger batch, fill one bottle and test whether the pump draws up and dispenses your emulsion smoothly. If the dose is jerky or the pump “bites”, the formulation is too thick for this pump.
What it is suitable for
- Facial creams and emulsions – day and night creams of medium viscosity, where you want to protect the contents from contact with fingers.
- Body lotions – thinner emulsions, where a small dose per press is not a problem and the customer dispenses as needed.
- Gel and emulsion serums – the clear bottle shows the colour and purity of the product, and the pump measures out the same amount with every press.
- Hand creams and topical products – the 100 ml volume matches a common retail pack size that fits in a bag as well as on the washbasin.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for during normal filling. The physical volume of the bottle up to the neck is larger. The difference leaves room for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. This is why you fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the cream will overflow through the neck when the pump is fitted.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the bottle or in the tube would needlessly dilute the preservative system in the product.
Clear PET does not protect against light. For formulations with sensitive ingredients, such as unsaturated vegetable oils, vitamins or some plant extracts, expect shorter stability or choose packaging made of a dark material.
Do not hot-fill PET. Let the emulsion cool to approximately room temperature before filling, as warm contents can deform the wall of the bottle. Do not expose the bottle to aggressive chemicals.
The set can be reused if, after emptying, it is washed thoroughly, the pump and the tube are rinsed and everything is left to dry. When changing the recipe, we recommend a new pump, as residues of the previous product are difficult to remove from the tube.
For recycling, the PET bottle and the polypropylene pump are sorted as plastic; separate them from each other before disposal.
Closures with the same neck type as stated in the bottle parameters, as well as other ready-made bottle plus closure combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
