Product description

A cream, serum or light emulsion is dispensed from this bottle by pressing the pump head, without unscrewing anything and without your fingers touching the contents. The set combines an amber PET medicine bottle, 30 ml and a black lotion pump with 18 mm neck finish. The packaging and the closure fit each other, so you do not need to assemble them from separate items. Amber plastic dampens light, which helps with contents containing oils, vitamins or plant extracts that lose stability faster in light.

A volume of 30 ml is enough for an eye cream, a serum, a hand cream for your handbag or a sample of a new formulation that you would like customers to try. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What it is good for

  • Creams and emulsions of medium thickness – the pump dispenses them evenly, and the contents do not come into contact with air to the same extent as in an open jar.
  • Serums and light fluids – one dose is approximately 0.12 ml, which is enough to treat the eye area or a small part of the face.
  • Samples and travel packs – PET is light and does not break when dropped.
  • Light-sensitive products – the amber colour reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and helps slow down changes in colour and fragrance.

How the set works

The pump is screwed onto the neck of the bottle and the tube reaches down into the contents. Pressing the pump head dispenses a defined amount, and when you release it the mechanism refills. Before first use, the pump usually needs a few presses to prime until the tube and the mechanism fill up.

This type of closure works best with contents that flow on their own: O/W emulsions, gel creams, serums and fluids. Very thick balms or butters will not be drawn up by the pump, or they may clog it over time. Thin liquids such as toners or hydrosols could be dispensed, but a fine mist sprayer or a dropper is more suitable for them.

We recommend testing the thickness of your formulation directly in this set before filling the whole batch. A single trial bottle will show whether the pump dispenses smoothly and whether the contents return into the tube without bubbles.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The physical volume up to the neck is larger; the difference is a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump and for slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume. If you fill the bottle to the brim, part of the contents is pushed out when the pump is screwed on.

Before the first filling, rinse the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Any remaining moisture inside would dilute the finished product. Let a hot emulsion cool to room temperature before filling; PET is not intended for hot filling.

PET and PP withstand common cosmetic bases, but concentrated essential oils, high proportions of alcohol and solvents can damage the plastic in the long term or change its appearance. For a formulation with a higher content of such ingredients, we recommend testing it in the packaging before launching the product.

Good to know

The bottle and the pump have the same 18 mm neck finish, so they seal together without any adjustment. If you want to use the same bottle with a different closure, Handymade offers other closures with the same neck finish as well as ready-made sets. If you combine parts yourself, we recommend checking the tightness and the dispensing with your specific formulation.

The set can be reused as long as you rinse the pump thoroughly so that no old contents remain in the tube. After emptying, it is enough to rinse the mechanism with warm water and let it dry. The bottle is made of PET and the pump of PP, so the two parts are separated and sorted as plastic for recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 30 ml amber PET bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents, but it does not provide complete darkness. For creams and serums containing oils, vitamins or plant extracts, this helps slow down changes in colour and fragrance. Even so, do not leave the finished product in direct sunlight for long periods; dark plastic is not a substitute for suitable storage.
How much does the 18 mm plastic lotion pump dispense?
One press dispenses approximately 0.12 ml of the contents. This amount suits an eye cream, a serum or a concentrated emulsion, where a small dose is used for each application. The actual amount also depends on the thickness of the formulation; with thicker creams the dose tends to be slightly smaller and the dispensing slower.
Is the bottle and lotion pump set suitable for thick balms?
No, the pump is designed for flowing emulsions and serums. A thick balm or butter will not be drawn up through the tube, and the mechanism may become clogged. A jar or a tube is more suitable for firmer textures. This set is intended for creams and fluids that can be poured freely out of the container.
Can the plastic bottle with pump be filled with a hot emulsion?
No, neither the PET bottle nor the PP pump is intended for hot filling. Let the emulsion cool to room temperature, and only then pour it into the bottle and screw on the pump. Warm contents could deform the plastic, and as they cool a vacuum would form in the bottle, which makes dispensing more difficult.
How much cream fits into a bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml?
Fill it with 30 ml, that is, up to the nominal volume. The space above this level remains free for the tube and the body of the pump and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is overfilled, part of the cream is pushed out when the pump is screwed on and soils the thread.
Is the set with the pump suitable for food use?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the 30 ml amber PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the lotion pump does not have one. If you need packaging for homemade oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a closure that also has a food-contact certificate.
