Product description

White plastic bottle, lotion pump, 100 ml

This white plastic bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a black lotion pump forms a ready-to-fill set for creams, facial and body lotions, light gels and liquid emulsions. The pump dispenses the same amount every time and the contents are not scooped out of an open container with fingers, so fewer impurities get into the product during normal use. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

The bottle is made of PET, is lightweight and is more resistant to drops than glass. The white opaque material limits the amount of light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with emulsions containing vegetable oils or active ingredients sensitive to light. The pump is made of PP, with a black head and a clear dip tube that reaches the bottom of the bottle.

What the set is suitable for

  • Creams and lotions – day and night creams, body lotions and hand creams that are meant to be dispensed in small amounts.
  • Gels and light emulsions – aloe gels, thickened serums and more fluid emulsions that the pump dispenses without effort.
  • Trial and travel sizes – the 100 ml volume lasts for several weeks of use and does not require a large supply of the product.
  • Small batches for sale – the same dose with every press makes it easier for the customer to estimate consumption.

Dispensing and viscosity

The pump works by pressing the head. With each press it dispenses approximately 0.12 ml of the product, which is the amount for a single application of cream to the face or hands. The dip tube draws the contents from the bottom, so the bottle does not need to be turned upside down or squeezed. Before first use, press the head several times to prime the pump until the tube fills.

Creams and emulsions for this set should have a viscosity that allows them to pass through the tube and head without great resistance. Thick butters, balms and products that solidify as they cool are difficult or impossible to dispense with a pump. Very thin liquids, on the other hand, may drip from the head. We recommend testing the behaviour of your specific formulation on one piece before filling the whole batch.

If a cream is difficult to dispense from the pump, adjust the viscosity already in the formulation, for example with a lower proportion of thickener or solid ingredients. Thinning the finished cream afterwards may disrupt the stability of the emulsion.

The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish, and the pump with an 18 mm thread fits it in this set. If you combine it with other closures with the same neck type, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation. You can find ready-made bottle + closure combinations in the Handymade range.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is slightly larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume, never to the brim, otherwise the cream will overflow through the thread when the pump is fitted.

Good to know

Before first filling, wash both the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the tube would get into the product and could affect its microbiological stability. After thorough washing, the set can be reused, but rinse the tube and the head separately so that no residues of the previous contents remain in them.

Do not expose the PET bottle to heat or aggressive chemicals. Cosmetic emulsions are filled into it only after they have cooled to room temperature. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend checking compatibility with the packaging in advance.

Only the bottle has a food-contact certificate on its own. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics and is not used for food.

The PET bottle and the PP pump are separated before disposal, and each is recycled as plastic according to its material code.

Frequently asked questions

What creams can I fill into a 100 ml bottle with a lotion pump?
Creams, lotions, gels and emulsions of medium viscosity that the pump can dispense without great resistance are suitable for the set. Thick butters, balms and products that solidify at room temperature cannot be dispensed through the tube and head. With a new formulation, it is worth filling one piece and testing how the contents are dispensed and whether the head drips.
Does the white plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, white opaque PET lets considerably less light through to the contents than clear plastic. This is an advantage for emulsions with vegetable oils, vitamins or other ingredients sensitive to light. Even so, do not leave the bottle in direct sunlight, because heat affects both the contents and the plastic itself.
How much cream does the pump dispense with one press?
One press of the head dispenses approximately 0.12 ml of the product, which corresponds to a single dose of facial cream or hand cream. The actual amount depends on the viscosity of the contents and on whether the tube is filled. Before first use, press the pump several times to prime it.
Is the bottle with a lotion pump suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the PET bottle has a food-contact certificate on its own, while the lotion pump does not. For homemade oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a closure whose food-contact suitability is stated in the parameters.
Can the plastic bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, after thorough washing and disinfection with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, the set can be filled again. Unscrew the pump and rinse the tube and the head separately so that no residues of the previous cream remain in them. All parts must be completely dry before refilling.
