Product description

A clear, tall plastic bottle with a matte white flip-top cap is a ready-to-use set for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetics with a nominal volume of 100 ml. The PET bottle is lightweight, making it suitable for use in the bathroom as well as for travel. The transparent material lets you see how much product remains.

The flip-top cap opens with one hand and the contents are dispensed by gently squeezing the bottle. The set is designed for cosmetic products that flow or can be easily squeezed out.

How the flip-top bottle dispenses and seals

The bottle and cap have a matching thread type, so the cap sits firmly on the neck when tightened. Dispensing is done through a small opening in the cap, which flips open with the thumb and snaps back shut after use.

  • One-hand dispensing – the cap does not unscrew, which is practical in the shower or when applying products with wet hands.
  • Controlled dosing – the narrow opening releases the contents in a thin stream. Thicker gels and lotions are dispensed by squeezing the bottle; thinner liquids flow out when tilted.
  • Visible contents – the transparent wall shows the colour, clarity and any separation of the product. You will notice any change before it reaches the skin.
  • Light weight and durability – PET does not shatter when dropped, which is an advantage in the bathroom, in a sports bag, and when shipping products by post.

Before travelling, we recommend testing the seal with the specific contents, especially with thinner liquids. Carry the bottle with the cap fully snapped shut, in an upright position or in a resealable bag.

Suitable product types

A flip-top works best with contents that flow on their own or can be easily squeezed out. This includes shower gels, shampoos, liquid soaps, conditioners, lighter body lotions, massage and body oils, and facial cleansing gels.

Thick creams, butters and balms are difficult to squeeze out of a tall, narrow bottle and some of the contents remain on the walls. A jar is more suitable for these. Very thin liquids can be dispensed through a flip-top, but the flow is harder to control than with a gel. If you need to apply them as a fine mist, a spray bottle will serve better.

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Products containing vegetable oils prone to oxidation, natural colourants, or active ingredients sensitive to light should be stored in a cabinet or box, or packaged in an opaque container.

Nominal and total volume

Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for at standard filling. Total brim volume is the physical volume up to the rim of the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the headspace for the cap and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It also allows the product to be shaken before use.

The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle may leak through the thread when the cap is screwed on and will force contents into the cap when heated.

What to know before filling

Before the first fill, wash both the bottle and cap in lukewarm water with a small amount of dish soap and rinse thoroughly. Then disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Moisture residue in the container puts unnecessary strain on the preservative system of the product.

Fill the bottle with contents that have cooled down. PET deforms at higher temperatures, so do not boil the bottle, do not sterilise it with hot water, and allow products prepared with heat to cool to approximately room temperature before filling.

  • Material sensitivity – PET is suitable for standard cosmetic formulations with a water, oil or surfactant base. Undiluted essential oils and strong solvents may degrade the plastic and should not be stored in it long-term.
  • Testing with your own formula – when introducing a new formulation, we recommend filling a test bottle and monitoring the seal, dispensing and appearance of both the container and contents for several weeks.
  • Labelling – apply the label to a dry, degreased surface, ideally before filling or after thoroughly wiping down the bottle.
  • Reuse – the bottle can be refilled after washing and disinfection. If the interior is scratched, a persistent odour remains, or the cap no longer snaps shut securely, it is better to replace the container.
  • Recycling – PET is a commonly recycled plastic; the empty bottle belongs in sorted plastic waste collection.

Both the bottle and cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. Separate caps with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal, dispensing performance and container behaviour with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

What products is the 100 ml plastic bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for?
The 100 ml plastic bottle with a flip-top cap is suitable for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetics dispensed by squeezing or pouring. Typical examples include shower gels, shampoos, conditioners, liquid soaps, lighter body lotions and massage oils. Thick creams and butters are difficult to extract from a tall, narrow bottle; a jar is more practical for those.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, the clear PET bottle transmits light and does not protect the contents from it. For shower gels, shampoos and similar products this is generally not an issue. Formulations containing oils prone to oxidation, natural colourants or light-sensitive active ingredients should be stored in the dark or filled into an opaque container.
How much product should be filled into the 100 ml plastic bottle?
The 100 ml plastic bottle should be filled to the nominal volume, that is 100 ml, not to the brim. The headspace above the fill line is the reserve for the cap and for expansion of the contents during warmer storage. An overfilled bottle may leak through the thread when closed and force contents into the cap when heated.
Can a hot product be filled into a PET bottle?
No, hot products should not be filled into a PET bottle because the material deforms under heat. Shower gels, lotions and other products prepared with heat should be allowed to cool to approximately room temperature before filling. For the same reason, the bottle should not be boiled. Isopropyl alcohol or ethanol is sufficient for disinfection.
Is the plastic bottle with a flip-top cap suitable for essential oils?
The plastic bottle with a flip-top cap is not suitable for undiluted essential oils, as concentrated essential oils can degrade PET over time. Finished cosmetic products in which essential or fragrance oils are present at standard usage levels can be filled into it. For more heavily fragranced formulas, we recommend testing the container's behaviour with a trial sample.
