Product description

The blue glass 10 ml bottle with a white and gold dropper is a ready-made set for small quantities of liquid cosmetics. The blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which helps protect vegetable and essential oils and serums containing light-sensitive ingredients from faster ageing. The dropper dispenses drop by drop. You take out exactly as much as you are applying, and the rest of the contents stays free of unnecessary contact with your fingers.

This volume is enough for a face serum for several weeks of use, a blend of essential oils, a cuticle oil or a trial batch of a new recipe. The medicine bottle shape with a narrow neck limits the surface through which the contents come into contact with air. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. It is not intended for food.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and eye serums – both water-based and oil-based low-viscosity serums that are applied in small amounts. The dropper dispenses them without spilling.
  • Oil serums and essential oil blends – the dark glass slows the effect of light on oils prone to oxidation, and the dropper measures out an exact number of drops into a diffuser or a carrier oil.
  • Cuticle, eyebrow and eyelash oil – the small volume and drop-by-drop dispensing match the way these products are used.
  • Samples and test batches – trying out a recipe, a gift sample or a fragrance testing set.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values leaves room for the dropper tube, which pushes part of the contents upwards when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the thread when the dropper is fitted, and the dropper then does not seal.

Using the dropper

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a white and gold collar that screws onto the neck of the bottle. The length of the tube matches the height of the bottle, so you can draw up even the last millilitres of the contents. Squeezing the bulb draws up the liquid contents and then releases them drop by drop: oils, oil serums, alcohol-based tinctures or light water-based serums.

Whether dispensing works depends on the viscosity of the filling. Thicker gels, serums with a higher proportion of thickener or emulsions will not be drawn into the tube or will not drip from it. For such products, a bottle with a pump or a jar is a better choice.

Before filling a whole batch, fill one bottle and check that the product is drawn up and drips the way you need. The viscosity of a finished recipe may change once it has cooled.

Store the bottle upright. When it lies on its side, the contents run into the bulb and, with longer contact, can affect its elasticity and the tightness of the dropper.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual moisture shortens the usability of an oil-based product and can contaminate a water phase without a preservative.

Glass withstands washing in hot water, but it reacts badly to a sudden change in temperature. Let a hot product cool before pouring it into the bottle, and do not rinse a cold bottle with boiling water. After thorough cleaning, the set can be used repeatedly. When switching to a different product, bear in mind that the silicone bulb may retain the scent of the previous contents.

With concentrated essential oils and alcohol tinctures, we recommend checking how the bulb of the dropper tolerates longer contact with the contents. The behaviour depends on the specific blend, so it is worth setting aside one filled bottle and checking the tightness and the elasticity of the bulb after several weeks.

If the dropper is lost or damaged, closures with the same neck finish, which is stated in the parameters, will fit the bottle. You will find ready-made combinations of the bottle with other closures in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Once emptied and rinsed, the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper combines several materials, so sort it according to the rules for mixed or plastic waste where you live.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and so slows down changes caused by light. It is therefore suitable for vegetable oils prone to oxidation, essential oil blends and serums with vitamin C or retinol. It does not provide complete darkness, so it is still advisable to keep the filled bottle away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
How much can you actually put into a 10 ml dropper bottle?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, although it holds more when filled to the brim. The difference is a reserve for the dropper tube, which pushes part of the liquid level upwards when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill to the brim, the product is pushed out through the thread and the dropper does not seal.
Is the dropper also suitable for a thick serum or gel?
No, the dropper dispenses reliably only liquid contents. Oils, tinctures and light water-based serums are drawn up and drip without any problem. Gels thickened with, for example, xanthan gum or carbomer, thick serums and emulsions are not drawn into the glass tube or do not drip from it. For such products, a bottle with a pump or a jar is more suitable.
Can the glass dropper bottle be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the dropper can be used again after cleaning. Wash both parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely so that no moisture remains in the bottle. When changing the filling, bear in mind that the silicone bulb may retain the scent of the previous product and may not lose all of its discolouration.
Is the blue glass dropper bottle suitable for essential oils?
Yes, the glass bottle is suitable for essential oils. Glass does not react with them, and the blue colour reduces light. With concentrated oils, we recommend checking how the silicone bulb behaves with longer contact: store the bottle upright so that the contents do not run into the bulb, and check the tightness and the elasticity of the dropper after several weeks.
