Product description

The glass medicine bottle with treatment pump, 100 ml, combines an amber glass bottle with an 18/410 neck and a plastic treatment pump with a clear overcap. Amber glass filters light and helps protect oils, oil serums and massage blends from light-induced oxidation. Each press of the pump dispenses a small, repeatable amount, so the oil can be applied to the face, hair or cuticles without spilling and without fingers touching the contents. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products.

What the set is suited for

  • Face and body oils – liquid vegetable oils and their blends, where a measured dose per press is valued.
  • Oil serums – blends of carrier oils with oil-soluble active ingredients.
  • Massage and aromatherapy blends – the 100 ml volume lasts for a long time and the pump dispenses exactly as much as is needed.
  • Hair and beard oils – a small dose is spread between the palms and does not weigh the hair down.
  • Nail and cuticle oils – for fine application, a single press is enough.

How the pump works

The treatment pump screws directly onto the neck of the bottle. The tube reaches almost to the bottom, so the contents can be used up almost completely without tilting the bottle. One press dispenses approximately 0.18 ml, which corresponds to a few drops. The clear overcap covers the pump head, protects it from dust and prevents accidental pressing during transport.

The pump is designed for liquid oils. Thin oils and light oil serums pass through it smoothly, while thicker oils are pumped more slowly. Solid butters and balms cannot be dispensed with it. When using the pump for the first time, press it several times until the tube fills.

With thicker oils, we recommend testing a small amount before filling the whole bottle to check that the pump draws your blend smoothly.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the rim of the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the pump tube, which raises the liquid level when the pump is screwed in, and for the expansion of the oil with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume. A bottle filled to the brim overflows through the neck when the pump is fitted, and the oil soils the thread.

The easiest way to fill the bottle is with a funnel or from a container with a spout. The 18/410 neck is narrow, which limits spilling, but it requires calm, steady pouring.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product promotes the growth of microorganisms and spoils the contents. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean alcohol and leave it to drain.

Glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection, so the bottle can be reused. It is best to avoid sudden changes in temperature, for example hot water on cold glass.

The pump and the clear overcap are made of plastic, the overcap of polystyrene. For blends with a higher proportion of essential oils or citrus oils, or for alcohol tinctures, we recommend testing on a sample to check that the material does not turn matte, soften or crack. Pure vegetable oils and ordinary oil serums usually do not cause such problems.

After washing, the bottle belongs in glass waste and the pump with the overcap in plastics. Closures with the same 18/410 neck finish and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine a bottle and a closure yourself, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber glass bottle with a treatment pump protect the oil from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light that passes through and slows down the light-induced oxidation of oils. It does not provide complete darkness, so store oils that are sensitive to oxidation, such as rosehip, flaxseed or hemp oil, away from direct sunlight and consider adding an antioxidant such as vitamin E. Amber glass is also suitable for oil serums with oil-soluble active ingredients.
How much oil does the treatment pump dispense per press?
One press dispenses approximately 0.18 ml, which is a few drops. The amount depends on the viscosity of the oil and on whether the tube is completely filled. For a face oil, one or two presses are usually enough; for a body or massage oil, more presses are needed. Before first use, press the pump several times to fill the tube.
Can the treatment pump be used for water-based toners or alcohol tinctures?
The pump is intended for liquid oils and the set is declared for cosmetic products. With alcohol or concentrated essential oils, we recommend testing on a sample to check that the plastic parts do not turn matte, soften or crack. Bottles with a fine mist sprayer are more suitable for toners.
Is the bottle and treatment pump set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the plastic pump and the clear overcap do not. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and is suited for face, body and hair oils.
Why should I not fill the glass bottle with a treatment pump to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not up to the neck. The brimful capacity is larger and the difference serves as a reserve for the pump tube, which raises the liquid level when the pump is screwed in, and for the expansion of the oil in warm conditions. If it is filled to the brim, the oil overflows when the pump is fitted and soils the thread, which impairs the seal.
How do I clean the bottle and treatment pump before reuse?
Wash the bottle in warm water with detergent, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Pump clean alcohol through the pump several times to remove residues of the old oil from the tube and the head, and leave it to drain. When cleaning the pump, it is better to avoid water, as it is difficult to remove from the tube and can cause spoilage in an oil-based product.
