Product description
The 10 ml glass medicine bottle with treatment pump is a complete set ready for filling with facial oils, oil serums and other liquid oil-based cosmetic products. The amber glass reduces exposure to light, which speeds up the oxidation of vegetable oils and the loss of fragrance in essential oils. Each press of the pump dispenses a small, repeatable amount of the contents, so the concentrated product is applied precisely and without spills.
The small capacity suits products that are used by the drop and consumed slowly: concentrated serums, facial oils, cuticle oil or samples from a new batch. The black treatment pump with clear overcap matches the amber glass.
What the set is suited for
- Facial oil serums – one or two doses are enough for the whole face, the contents do not touch your fingers and stay protected from light in the dark glass.
- Facial and hair oils – a smaller amount for the ends of the hair, the eye area or dry patches is dispensed without tilting the bottle.
- Cuticle and beard oil – with both single-ingredient and blended oils, the advantages are a precise dose and a clean neck.
- Samples and test batches – the 10 ml capacity corresponds to a small trial pack for testing a recipe with customers or family.
How the treatment pump works
The treatment pump screws onto the 18/410 neck finish and draws the contents up through a dip tube from the bottom. One press dispenses approximately 0.18 ml, which corresponds to a few drops. This figure applies to liquid oils. With thicker blends containing butters or waxes, the dose may be smaller and the pump may draw less easily, so check the behaviour with your specific recipe. The clear overcap protects the pump opening from dust and prevents unintended pressing when the bottle is carried in a bag.
The dip tube of the pump is longer than this bottle requires. Before fitting the pump for the first time, shorten the tube with a sharp knife or scissors so that it reaches just above the bottom. The pump then draws the contents right to the end and does not pull in air.
Filling and capacity
The nominal capacity is the amount the bottle is intended for under normal filling. The brimful capacity listed in the parameters is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck. The difference between the two is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump body, which push part of the contents upwards once screwed on. Fill the bottle up to the nominal capacity, not to the brim. If you fill it to the neck, the oil overflows when the pump is fitted and soils the thread, which then does not seal.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product supports the growth of microorganisms.
- Glass and temperature – pour in the contents once cooled. Hot oil or a sudden drop in temperature can damage the glass. Let a cold bottle warm up to room temperature before filling.
- Plastic and essential oils – the pump and the overcap are made of plastic. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking beforehand whether the pump material changes in appearance or tightness after several weeks.
- Food contact – only the glass medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The set with the pump and overcap is intended as a whole for cosmetics and is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.
- Other closures – other closures with an 18/410 neck finish from the Handymade range also fit the bottle; you will find ready-made sets among the bottles with the same neck finish. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
- Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the bottle can be filled again. Rinse the pump with ethanol, pump it empty and leave it to dry. If residues of the old oil remain in it, they would affect the fragrance of the new filling, so replace it with a new one.
- Recycling – the glass belongs in glass collection; after separation, the pump and overcap go into plastic collection.
Each press of the pump lets air into the bottle. For oils prone to oxidation, such as rosehip or flaxseed oil, we recommend filling smaller batches and adding an antioxidant, for example vitamin E, to the recipe.
