Product description

The amber plastic medicine bottle with treatment pump is used for precise dispensing of oil blends without dripping and without the contents coming into contact with your hands. One press of the pump delivers the same small dose every time. It is suitable for facial oil serums, cuticle oils, body and massage oils, or blends with essential oils, where only a few drops are taken each time. The PET bottle is lightweight and shatter-proof, and the amber colour of the material filters light and slows down the oxidation of sensitive oils. The set with a nominal volume of 50 ml is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set consists of

  • Amber medicine bottle, 50 ml – a PET bottle with an 18 mm neck that protects the contents from light and survives a fall onto the bathroom floor.
  • Black treatment pump – a pump with an 18/410 neck finish and a tube long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle. This lets you use the contents down to the last millilitre.
  • Clear overcap – a polystyrene cover that fits over the pump head. It protects the pump from dust and prevents accidental pressing in a bag or drawer.

How the pump works

The pump is designed for thin and medium-thick oil contents. One press delivers approximately 0.18 ml, which corresponds to a few drops. For a facial oil serum, one or two presses are enough, while for a massage oil the dose is measured out by pressing repeatedly. The tube reaches the bottom, so there is no need to turn or tilt the bottle. Remove the clear overcap before use and put it back on afterwards.

When using it for the first time, press the pump several times to prime it until the tube fills and the oil starts to come out. The same small amount remains in the tube and pump head even after the bottle is empty.

The pump is intended for oils and oil blends. Dispense aqueous solutions, hydrosols or alcohol tinctures with a different pump or a dropper. With thin aqueous contents, this type of pump may not seal and dispense evenly.

What it is suitable for

The bottle with pump is filled mainly with products where a small amount is taken at a time and a repeatable dose matters:

  • Facial oil serums – blends of vegetable oils with oil extracts. The pump replaces a dropper, which would touch the skin during application.
  • Cuticle and beard oils – one press is the dose for one application.
  • Body and massage oils – in a smaller pack for travel or as samples for customers.
  • Oil blends with essential oils – only a few drops are taken each time, and the fragrance does not evaporate needlessly from an open bottle.

The pump is not suitable for thick balms, oil gels or oils with suspended particles. Such contents get stuck in the tube or are dispensed unevenly.

Nominal volume and filling

The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The volume of the bottle up to the neck is larger. The difference provides a reserve for the tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the oil with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume of 50 ml, not to the brim. If it were filled to the neck, the oil would be pushed out around the thread when the pump is screwed in, and the pump would leak at first use.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Traces of water shorten the shelf life of the oil blend and may make the contents cloudy. After drying, press the empty pump several times to expel any disinfectant residue from the tube.

PET tolerates common vegetable oils and oil extracts without problems. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils or for oils containing solvents, check the behaviour of the bottle with your specific formulation beforehand, as some ingredients may soften or cloud the plastic over time. Do not expose the bottle to heat or aggressive chemicals. When refilling, take the pump apart, rinse it with lukewarm water with a small amount of surfactant, or with ethanol, and leave it to dry. Residues of oxidised oil in the tube would spoil the new filling.

Only the amber medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The treatment pump and the clear overcap do not have this certificate, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products, not for edible oils or herbal infusions for consumption.

The neck of the bottle has an 18 mm thread. You can find closures with the same type of neck and other ready-made combinations with this medicine bottle in the Handymade range. When making your own combination, check the sealing and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic medicine bottle with treatment pump protect oils from light?
Yes, amber PET reduces light transmission and slows down the oxidation of vegetable oils as well as the change in the fragrance of essential oils, which light accelerates. The packaging is not completely opaque, so keep finished oil blends away from direct sunlight and protect them from heat.
How much oil does the treatment pump deliver with one press?
One press of the pump delivers approximately 0.18 ml of oil, which corresponds to a few drops. The exact amount depends on the viscosity of the oil and on whether the pump is pressed fully. With thicker oils, the dose may be slightly smaller. One or two presses are usually enough for an oil serum for the whole face.
Is the plastic bottle with treatment pump suitable for aqueous solutions or hydrosols?
No, this pump is intended for oil contents. With thin aqueous solutions, hydrosols or alcohol tinctures, the pump may not seal and dispense evenly. The amber medicine bottle on its own tolerates aqueous contents, but for toners or hydrosols choose a fine mist sprayer or another closure with an 18 mm neck.
Can the plastic medicine bottle with treatment pump be reused?
Yes, the bottle and the pump can be refilled after cleaning. Take the pump apart, rinse it with lukewarm water with surfactant or with ethanol and leave it to dry completely, otherwise the residues of the old oil in the tube will oxidise and spoil the new filling. Disinfect the bottle with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry as well.
Is the set with amber medicine bottle and treatment pump approved for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. Only the amber plastic medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the treatment pump and the clear overcap do not have it. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics and is intended for cosmetic oils, serums and massage blends.
