Product description

A glass bottle with a black cap, 10 ml, is a small retail packaging for samples, testers and small doses of your own products. Clear glass lets you see the contents, making it suitable for products where colour and clarity are part of the impression – facial oils, serums, tinctures, aromatherapy blends or samples of fragrance compositions. The set consists of a vial-shaped bottle with a narrow neck and a simple plastic screw cap that seals the packaging without a dispensing component. Both the bottle and the cap are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

The black cap gives the small clear bottle a contrast and looks neutral – it does not compete with the label or the colour of the contents. As the set includes neither a dropper nor a spray, dosing is done directly by tilting the bottle or pouring, or the contents can be scooped with a spatula when working in a workshop.

Key properties

  • Glass with no odour or taste of its own – does not react with oils, essential oils or alcohol-based solutions, and therefore does not alter the scent or character of the contents. Also suitable for blends with a high proportion of essential oils, which with some plastics could cause softening or cloudiness of the wall.
  • Transparency – both the customer and the producer can see the colour, clarity and quantity of the contents. This is an advantage for presentation, but it also means that the packaging does not protect the contents from light.
  • Small volume – a practical size for samples, travel packaging, essential oil blends, a serum for a few weeks of use or for testing a new formula while a larger batch is being prepared.
  • Simple screw cap – the cap with a sealing insert closes the packaging for standard cosmetic contents, opens and closes easily, which suits applications where the contents are used gradually.
  • Reusable – glass can be thoroughly washed and disinfected, allowing the bottle to be used multiple times. The cap should be replaced when the seal shows significant wear.

What the set is suitable for

It works best for small amounts of oil-based or alcohol-based products: facial and nail oils, oil serums, essential oil blends for dilution and tinctures. Also suitable for fragrance composition samples that the customer smells or applies with a finger, and for small samples of lighter-consistency creams that can be shaken out through the narrow neck.

Less suitable for thick creams and butters, as the narrow neck of the vial makes scooping difficult, and for light-sensitive products that will be exposed to daylight on a shelf for longer periods – for those, brown or blue glass is more appropriate. For aqueous solutions, tonics and hydrolates the packaging works, but dosing without a spray is less convenient.

Nominal and total volume

For each packaging we state two volumes and it is worth not confusing them. Nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for during normal filling. Total brim volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is larger. The difference between them is an intentional allowance: space for the cap and its seal, for the air space above the surface and for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, for example during summer transport. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim – overfilled, it would overflow when closing and the oily contents would contaminate the thread and the seal.

When filling small bottles, a filling funnel or dosing syringe works well. The thread stays clean, the cap seats properly and does not get stuck with oil.

Good to know

Before the first fill, wash, rinse and disinfect both the bottle and the cap, then let them dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product can enable microbial growth, so thorough drying is particularly important for anhydrous formulations without a preservative.

Glass and heat: the bottle is not designed for filling with hot contents or for sudden temperature changes. Let the blend cool to approximately room temperature before filling. Glass can crack under sudden thermal shock and hot contents also stress the sealing insert of the cap.

Cap and contents: the plastic cap with insert seals properly with standard oils, serums and alcohol-based solutions. With concentrated essential oils and strong solvents we recommend testing the tightness and the behaviour of the insert over time on a test piece – this is a set intended for cosmetics, not for pure chemicals.

Food: the set is not declared for contact with food. It is not intended for home-made oils, syrups or herbal extracts. Use it for cosmetic and aromatherapy products.

Labelling: on the small vial, space for a label is limited. A narrow band label or a hang tag with the full information works well.

Other closures: if a plain cap does not suit your needs, other closures with the same neck type 18/410 from the Handymade range can be used with this bottle, or you can choose a ready-made combination. With a custom combination we recommend testing the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation.

Recycling: the glass bottle goes into glass waste, the plastic cap into plastics. Separate them before disposal.

Clear glass transmits not only visible light but also a portion of UV radiation. Products containing oxidation-sensitive essential oils, unsaturated oils or light-sensitive active ingredients should be stored in the dark or packed in dark glass.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear glass bottle 10 ml protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Light accelerates the oxidation of unsaturated oils and some essential oils, so the clear bottle is suited to products with good oxidative stability, samples with a short use cycle or packaging that is stored in a box or drawer. For light-sensitive blends, brown or blue glass is more appropriate.
How much can actually be filled into a glass bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml?
The fill is 10 ml, which is the nominal volume of the packaging. The physical volume to the brim is larger, but the difference is the allowance for the cap, the air above the surface and the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If filled to the neck, the contents would be pushed onto the thread when closing and the seal would not seat cleanly.
Is the glass bottle set with black cap suitable for essential oils?
Yes, glass is a suitable material for both neat and diluted essential oils as it does not react with them. The cap deserves attention: its plastic sealing insert is designed for standard cosmetic contents and with concentrated essential oils it is recommended to verify the seal on a test piece. Given the clear glass, store the oils away from light.
Can the glass bottle 10 ml be used repeatedly?
Yes, the glass bottle can be used repeatedly after thorough washing and disinfection. Wash it with warm water and detergent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Check the cap – if the sealing insert is deformed or has absorbed the scent of the previous contents, replace it with a new one.
Is the glass bottle with a plain cap suitable for aqueous products, such as tonics?
It is suitable, but the contents are dispensed without a dosing component, poured directly from the neck. A spray is more convenient for tonics and hydrolates, and a dropper for serums. Both closures can be selected from the Handymade range to fit the 18/410 neck. Aqueous products always require a preservation system; the packaging alone does not protect them from microbial growth.
Is the glass bottle with a black cap suitable for food, such as home-made oils?
No, this set is not declared for contact with food. Both the bottle and the cap are designed and verified for cosmetic products – oils, serums, tinctures and aromatherapy blends. For food use, choose packaging from the range that specifies suitability for food contact.
