Product description
A small clear glass medicine bottle with a dropper for dispensing drop by drop, supplied as a ready-made set of bottle and closure. The clear glass shows both the colour and the level of the contents, so it suits face serums, oil blends, diluted essential oils and test samples, where you want to see what is inside and how much is left. The 15 ml volume corresponds to a common size of facial serum or oil. It is also enough for customer samples or for trying out a new recipe before filling larger packaging.
Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product. The set is not intended for food. We therefore do not recommend it for homemade oils, syrups or infusions for consumption.
What it is suitable for
- Face and oil serums – the dropper measures out a small amount that is applied to the face drop by drop, and the contents do not touch your fingers during use.
- Plant oil blends for face and nails – the clear glass lets the natural colour of the oil show, and you can see at once how much is left.
- Diluted essential oils and fragrance blends – glass does not react with the contents. We recommend checking how the silicone head behaves with more concentrated blends against your specific recipe.
- Samples and test batches – a small volume is enough when developing a recipe, and through the glass you can watch whether the contents turn cloudy or separate over time.
- Tinctures and alcohol extracts for cosmetic use – alcohol does not harm glass, and dispensing drop by drop is more accurate with concentrates than pouring.
Dropper and dispensing
The black dropper consists of a threaded closure, a silicone head and a glass tube. Once screwed on, the tube reaches almost to the bottom of the bottle, so the last of the contents can be drawn out as well. Squeezing the head draws in the liquid, and releasing it dispenses the liquid drop by drop. With thinner contents it flows faster, with thicker oils more slowly. The dropper has a tamper-evident ring and screws onto the bottle.
Before putting it away, wipe the neck and the outside of the tube free of oil residue. Dried oil on the thread gradually impairs the seal and makes opening harder.
The dropper works best with liquid contents. Thick serums with a higher content of gelling agents, or creamy textures, are hard to draw up through a thin tube. For such a recipe, a different type of closure with the same neck is more suitable. You can find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total volume to the brim, given in the parameters, is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them serves as a reserve for the dropper tube, which pushes part of the contents upwards once screwed in, and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. You should therefore fill it up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled medicine bottle overflows when closed and the contents get onto the thread.
When filling smaller batches, a funnel or a syringe will help. The narrow neck is awkward for pouring from a larger container without an aid.
Good to know
- Light – clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Store oils prone to oxidation and recipes with light-sensitive active ingredients in a box or in the dark, or choose amber glass.
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the tube ends up in an anhydrous product.
- Reuse – the glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection. After longer use with oils, check that the dropper head has not lost its elasticity and draws up as well as a new one.
- Heat – the glass is not built for sudden temperature changes. Let a hot mixture cool before filling, and do not expose the medicine bottle to frost or put it next to a heat source.
- Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper, made of plastic, silicone and glass, is sorted separately.
For contents with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking how the silicone head and the plastic closure behave after several weeks. Glass reacts stably, while the behaviour of the closure depends on the specific blend.
