Product description
The 100 ml glass bottle with pump is designed for filling with your own serums, face and hair oils and thin emulsions that you want to dispense in small amounts without pouring and without the contents touching your fingers. Green glass filters out part of the light, so it suits fillings that should not sit in clear glass. The glossy white and gold pump with a dip tube draws the contents from the bottom and delivers roughly the same dose with each press.
The set consists of a glass medicine bottle and a plastic pump with a glossy gold and white finish. Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. This set is not approved for contact with food, so use it for cosmetics.
What to use it for
- Face and hair serums – thin water-based and oil-based serums pass through the pump smoothly, and one dose corresponds to a usual amount for a single application.
- Face and body oils, beard oils – the oil does not pour out of the bottle, the pump delivers a small measured amount and your hand stays clean.
- Liquid emulsions and fluids – light face or body milks, as long as they are sufficiently thin. A thicker cream will not be drawn up by the pump, or it will clog.
- Oil cleansers and make-up remover blends – the 100 ml volume lasts for several weeks and the contents are dispensed straight onto your palm or a cotton pad.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which take up part of the internal space once screwed in, and for slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore fill up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the neck, part of the contents is pushed out when the pump is fitted and runs down the thread.
After filling and screwing on the pump, press it several times to prime it until the dip tube fills and the pump starts to deliver the contents. This is normal on first use and is not a fault.
How to use the set
Before the first filling, wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it thoroughly, disinfect the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely upside down. Rinse the pump with clean water, or pump ethanol through it several times, and also leave it to dry. Residual water in the bottle would dilute an oil-based filling and, in water-based formulations, would put unnecessary strain on the preservative system.
The dip tube of the pump should reach just to the bottom of the bottle. If it bends after screwing in or rests against the bottom and the pump does not draw, shorten it with a sharp knife using a diagonal cut. A diagonal end does not stick to the bottom, and the pump draws up even the last millilitres of the contents.
One dose is approximately 0.14 ml. With thicker serums or emulsions of higher viscosity, test on a small amount before filling the whole batch to check that the pump draws the contents smoothly and that it does not clog with dried residue in the nozzle after a few days.
The pump contains plastic and aluminium parts. With formulations of low pH, higher alcohol content, salts or undiluted essential oils, check beforehand that the contents do not damage the seal or change the appearance of the glossy surface.
Good to know
Green glass dampens light but does not filter it out completely. Store oils prone to oxidation and serums with sensitive active ingredients out of direct sunlight even in this packaging. Glass is impermeable to air and fragrance, does not absorb odours and can be refilled repeatedly. For each refill, wash and disinfect the bottle again and rinse the pump so that no residues of the previous contents remain in the dip tube and nozzle.
Pour in the contents once they have cooled. A sudden change of temperature can crack the glass, and a hot filling can damage the plastic parts of the pump. When carrying it in a bag, the pump may be pressed accidentally and release a drop, so transport it upright or in a closed bag.
Closures with the same neck finish as listed in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations of bottle and closures, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
After use, the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The pump is a combination of several materials and is sorted separately.
