Product description

This white plastic pharmaceutical bottle, 50 ml, with a black fine mist sprayer is intended for filling and dispensing thin cosmetic preparations: facial toners, hydrolates, hair sprays, refreshing face or body mists and hand disinfectant solutions. The white PET body limits the light reaching the contents, is lightweight and does not break when dropped, so it suits a handbag, travel and a cosmetic bag alike. The sprayer disperses the liquid into fine droplets, so the preparation is applied evenly and your fingers do not come into contact with the contents. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

How the set works

The bottle has an 18/415 neck finish and the sprayer simply screws onto it. The dip tube reaches the bottom, so almost all of the contents can be used up. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml. This is enough to refresh the face or for a few sprays into the hair; for body sprays, several presses are needed.

The sprayer works best with liquids that are as thin as water: hydrolates, toners, alcohol-based solutions and light hair preparations. Thicker preparations or pure oils are pushed through the mechanism with more difficulty and may come out in a stream instead of being dispersed. For such contents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the sprayer on a small sample first.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. Residual water can dilute the contents and affect their shelf life.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the quantity the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume up to the rim of the neck is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the dip tube and the sprayer mechanism, which takes up part of the space once screwed on, and for slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not up to the rim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the sprayer is fitted and the seal may not sit correctly.

Good to know

  • Materials – the bottle is made of PET, the sprayer of polypropylene (PP). Both plastics withstand the water-based and alcohol-based solutions commonly used in cosmetics.
  • Essential oils and solvents – preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, concentrated fragrance compositions or aggressive solvents may cloud or soften the plastic over time. Before larger-scale production, we recommend checking compatibility with the material.
  • Heat – PET is not suitable for filling with hot liquids. Let the finished preparation cool to room temperature before filling.
  • Contact with food – only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food. The sprayer does not have such a certificate, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.
  • Reuse – after thorough washing and disinfection, the set can be filled again. Immerse the sprayer in clean water, spray several times and then spray it empty so that no residues of the previous contents remain in the tube and the nozzle.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs in plastic waste as PET, the sprayer as PP. Separate the two parts before disposal.

Closures with the same type of neck and other ready-made combinations of a bottle with a sprayer, pump or cap can be found in the Handymade range. If you are making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Water-based preparations such as toners or hydrolates need preservation in this packaging. The sprayer prevents fingers from coming into contact with the contents, but each press draws air into the bottle, because this is not an airless system.

Frequently asked questions

Does the white plastic bottle with a sprayer protect the contents from light?
Partly, yes. The white colour of the PET limits the passage of light, so the contents are better protected than in clear packaging. For light-sensitive raw materials, such as some plant extracts or essential oils, also store the bottle away from direct sunlight, as with other plastic packaging.
Can oil be sprayed through this sprayer?
The sprayer is designed for thin liquids and works only to a limited extent with oils. Light oils may be sprayable, but the result is usually a stream rather than dispersed droplets, and the mechanism becomes clogged over time. For body or hair oils, a bottle with a pump or a dropper is more suitable, or you can test the behaviour of the sprayer on a small sample first.
How much product fits into a bottle with a nominal volume of 50 ml?
The bottle is filled with approximately 50 ml, not up to the rim of the neck. The remaining space above the nominal volume is taken up by the dip tube of the sprayer and serves as a reserve for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, part of the contents is pushed out when the sprayer is screwed on.
Is the bottle and sprayer set also suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the white PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not have such a certificate. For cosmetic preparations, toners, hydrolates, hair sprays and hand disinfectant solutions, the set is declared suitable.
Can I fill the PET sprayer bottle with an alcohol-based solution or eau de parfum?
Alcohol-based solutions of common cosmetic concentrations are tolerated by both PET and polypropylene. For eau de parfum and preparations with a high proportion of essential oils or fragrance compositions, check before long-term filling whether the plastic clouds or softens. It is enough to fill a small sample and check the condition of the bottle and the sprayer after a few weeks.
