Product description

An amber glass medicine bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a black plastic fine mist sprayer make a ready-to-use packaging set for cosmetics that are applied by spraying. The dark glass reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents, so it suits products that light gradually degrades: hydrosols, facial and hair tonics, floral waters, facial mists and light hair sprays. The sprayer dispenses the contents in fine droplets without touching them by hand. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

  • Hydrosols and tonics – thin water-based solutions that the sprayer distributes evenly over the skin or hair.
  • Facial mists and refreshing sprays – the contents are applied with no hand contact, which, for water-based products, limits the transfer of impurities into the bottle.
  • Hair sprays and hair waters – light solutions without oils and thickeners. The sprayer cannot spray thicker preparations.
  • Alcohol-based preparations – alcohol tonics and perfume waters, where amber glass helps to preserve both the fragrance and the colour.

How the set works

The sprayer is screwed onto the neck of the bottle and the tube reaches down to its bottom, so almost all of the contents can be used. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which is enough for a fine mist on the skin without dripping. After filling, press the head several times until the tube and the mechanism fill with liquid and the sprayer delivers a continuous mist.

The mechanism is designed for thin liquids. Thick serums, emulsions, lotions and pure oils will not be sprayed evenly; the tube may become blocked or the contents may come out in a stream. For such products, we recommend choosing a different closure with the same type of neck. You can find closures and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you combine a bottle and a closure yourself, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

The sprayer is not intended for contact with food. Only the glass medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Nominal volume and brimful volume

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them provides room for the tube and the immersed part of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise the contents would overflow after the sprayer is screwed on.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. It is enough to rinse the sprayer with clean water and pump it several times while empty to clear any remaining water from the tube.

When reusing the set, take the sprayer apart, rinse the tube and the mechanism and let them dry. Residues of the previous contents, especially of preserved water-based products, could affect the new filling.

Hydrosols and water-based tonics without a preservative have a short shelf life in the bottle regardless of the packaging. The sprayer limits contact of the contents with the hands, but it does not replace preservation of the water phase.

The bottle is made of glass and the sprayer of polypropylene. Before recycling, separate the two parts: the glass goes with glass and the sprayer with plastics.

Frequently asked questions

Does an amber glass medicine bottle with a sprayer protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass reduces the amount of light that reaches the contents and so slows down the changes that light causes in them. It is therefore suitable for hydrosols, tonics with plant extracts and perfume waters, which lose their fragrance or change colour faster in clear glass. Glass does not provide complete protection from light, so store the packaging out of direct sunlight.
Can oil or serum be applied with the sprayer on a 100 ml medicine bottle?
No, the sprayer is designed for thin water-based and alcohol-based liquids. Oils, serums with a thickener and emulsions will not be sprayed evenly by the mechanism; the contents come out in a stream or the tube becomes blocked. For such products, we recommend a separate medicine bottle with a different closure with the same type of neck, for example a dropper or a pump.
How much liquid fits into a 100 ml medicine bottle with a sprayer?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 100 ml. The brimful volume is larger, but this space serves as a reserve for the sprayer tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, the contents will overflow after the sprayer is screwed on.
Is the medicine bottle and sprayer set suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the glass medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the plastic sprayer does not have this declaration. Therefore, do not use the set with a sprayer for herbal infusions, syrups or cooking oils.
How do I prepare a medicine bottle with a sprayer before the first filling?
Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry. Rinse the sprayer with water, pump it several times while empty and let it dry as well. After filling, press the head several times until the tube fills with the contents and the sprayer starts to dispense evenly.
Can the plastic sprayer withstand alcohol tonics and perfume waters?
The polypropylene sprayer is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, but we recommend checking its behaviour with your specific alcohol-based contents. With a higher proportion of alcohol or with essential oils in the contents, run a short test: fill the bottle, leave it for several days and check the tightness and the dispensing.
