Product description
An amber glass pharmaceutical bottle with a capacity of 50 ml and a black plastic fine mist sprayer is a ready-to-use set for water-based and alcohol-based cosmetic preparations applied by spraying. The dark glass limits the light reaching the contents, so the bottle is especially suitable for hydrolates, toners and refreshing sprays, whose fragrance and active ingredients degrade faster in light. The tall, slim shape sits well in the hand and also fits into a cosmetic bag.
The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The certificate for direct food contact applies only to the glass pharmaceutical bottle on its own; the complete set is intended for cosmetics.
What it is suitable for
- Hydrolates and toners – water-based preparations where customers will appreciate an even dose without their fingers touching the contents.
- Refreshing and soothing facial sprays – light water-based solutions with water-soluble active ingredients.
- Sprays for hair – infusions, thin leave-in conditioners and shine sprays.
- Alcohol-based and perfume waters – glass does not react with alcohol and does not change the fragrance of the contents.
- Samples and travel sizes – the 50 ml volume is also suitable for test doses for customers.
How the sprayer dispenses
One press releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents as a fine mist, which is enough for the face, the décolleté area or a smaller section of hair. The sprayer works with thin liquids, that is, water, hydrolates, alcohol-based solutions and toners. Thick serums, gels and vegetable oils spray poorly and clog the nozzle. If you want to use a light oil blend, test the sprayer with a small amount before filling a whole batch.
After filling, press the sprayer several times to prime it until the tube fills with liquid and the mist comes out evenly. This is normal during the first presses and does not indicate a fault in the closure.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the volume the pharmaceutical bottle is designed for during normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them serves as a reserve for the sprayer tube, for the air above the liquid and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle only to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill the bottle completely, the liquid will overflow through the neck when you screw on the sprayer.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the pharmaceutical bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Residual water in the packaging would dilute the contents and, in products without a preservative, shorten their shelf life. Rinse the sprayer with clean water before use and also leave it to dry.
Glass tolerates heat and alcohol, but the contents should be poured into the pharmaceutical bottle only once they have cooled. A sudden temperature difference may damage the glass, and the polypropylene sprayer tube may deform when a hot liquid is used. For preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking after a few weeks that the sprayer still dispenses without change and that it seals properly. You will find ready-made combinations and other closures with the same neck type in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, test the sealing and dispensing with your specific formulation.
Water-based preparations without a preservative, for example pure hydrolates, spoil in a spray bottle just as they do in any other packaging, even in dark glass. Amber glass protects against light; it does not solve the microbial stability of the contents.
After washing and disinfection, the pharmaceutical bottle can be reused. Replace the sprayer if it no longer dispenses evenly or if the fragrance of previously filled contents has penetrated into it. For recycling, glass belongs with glass and the sprayer with plastics, so separate them before disposal.
