Product description

A brown glass dropper bottle with a black cap is a complete ready-to-fill set for liquid cosmetic preparations in a 50 ml volume. Brown glass reduces light exposure to the contents, which is valuable for essential oils, oil blends and serums whose components oxidise rapidly under light. The dropper inserted into the neck releases the contents drop by drop, allowing precise dosing without unnecessary contact with air.

The tall, slim shape of the bottle fits comfortably in the hand, takes up little shelf space and leaves enough surface area for a label. The set is suitable for small-scale producers and home formulators who need a sealed and ready-to-use container without assembling individual parts from different sources.

What makes the set practical

  • Light protection – brown glass transmits less light than clear glass, which slows the oxidation of sensitive oils, vitamins and fragrance components. It does not replace an antioxidant in the formulation, but complements it.
  • Drop-by-drop dosing – the dropper is inserted into the neck and releases the contents gradually when the bottle is tilted. The customer takes exactly as much as needed, and fingers or contaminants cannot enter the bottle.
  • Chemically inert glass – glass does not absorb fragrances, does not discolour and does not release any components into the contents. This is important with concentrated essential oils and alcohol-based preparations.
  • Consistent appearance – the brown bottle with a black cap looks understated and suits both dark and light labels without adjusting the cap colour.
  • Reusable – glass can be refilled after thorough washing and disinfection. We recommend replacing the dropper and cap with new ones when changing the contents.

Suitable for products such as

The dropper works best with thin, low-viscosity contents. The set is therefore most suitable for:

  • essential oils and fragrance blends for aromatherapy or diffusers,
  • facial and hair oils, oil serums and blends of carrier oils with essential oils,
  • aqueous and water-glycerin serums with lower viscosity that are applied drop by drop,
  • alcohol tinctures, herbal extracts for cosmetic use and tonics in travel size,
  • samples and test batches where you want to track consumption precisely.

Thicker oils, butters in liquid state or serums thickened with gums flow through the dropper slowly or not at all. For such contents, a bottle with a pump or without an insert is more suitable.

Nominal and total volume

With a dropper bottle you will encounter two volumes. The nominal volume is the volume for which the container is intended at standard filling, and this is the figure stated on the label. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the dropper, which when inserted into the neck is submerged in the contents, and for the expansion of the liquid with changes in temperature. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Exact values for both volumes can be found in the product parameters.

Preparation and filling

Before first use, wash the bottle with warm water, optionally with a mild detergent, and rinse with clean water. Then disinfect the inside with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to air-dry upside down. Residual moisture in an oil-based preparation causes cloudiness and creates an environment for microorganisms. The dropper and cap can simply be sprayed with alcohol and left to evaporate.

Fit the dropper only after filling the bottle and press it evenly around the entire circumference so that it sits tightly in the neck. Then tighten the cap by hand without tools. The black plastic can deform under excessive force and lose its seal.

The neck of the bottle is narrow, so when filling small batches a narrow funnel or a dosing pump with a nozzle helps. Apply the label to a dry and degreased surface.

What is worth knowing

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. All three components are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The food-contact declaration applies only to the glass bottle individually; the dropper and cap do not have it. We therefore do not recommend the set for food use. The declaration of conformity is available at the product.

The dropper and cap are made of plastic. They are used as standard with common cosmetic oils, essential oils and alcohol tinctures. With aggressive solvents or concentrated substances outside cosmetics, we recommend verifying the material's behaviour with the specific formulation. Glass tolerates heat, but do not fill hot contents into a cold bottle. A sudden change in temperature may damage it.

Closures with the same neck type stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations, are available in the Handymade range. When combining parts yourself, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing and container behaviour with the specific formulation.

Brown glass slows the effect of light but does not stop it completely. Store filled bottles away from direct sunlight and, for oils sensitive to oxidation, consider adding an antioxidant such as tocopherol.

After use, glass is recycled as packaging glass and plastic components separately as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml glass dropper bottle suitable for essential oils?
Yes, a brown glass dropper bottle is a standard way of packaging essential oils and fragrance blends. Glass does not react with the contents, the brown tint protects against light and the dropper doses the oil drop by drop, which matches the way it is used in aromatherapy. With very thick oils, such as vetiver or myrrh, expect slower dripping.
Can a thicker serum or oil be dosed through the dropper?
Partially. The dropper is designed for thin, low-viscosity contents such as essential oils, light carrier oils and aqueous serums. Thicker oils and serums thickened with gums flow through the dropper opening slowly or stop entirely. For such products, a bottle with a pump or without an insert with direct dosing from the neck is more suitable.
Why is the 50 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
Because the space above the nominal volume is reserved for the dropper and for the expansion of the contents. When the dropper is inserted into the neck, it is submerged in the liquid and displaces some of it upwards. If the bottle were filled to the brim, the contents would overflow. The nominal volume is the value for which the container is intended and which is stated on the label.
Is the dropper bottle set suitable for food as well?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The food-contact declaration applies only to the glass bottle individually; the plastic dropper and cap do not have it. For cosmetic preparations, essential oils and alcohol tinctures for external use, the set is declared as suitable.
Can the glass dropper bottle be used repeatedly?
Yes, the glass bottle can be refilled after thorough washing and disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. We recommend replacing the dropper and cap with new ones when changing the contents. Plastic absorbs the scent of the previous oil and the insert may not sit as tightly after being removed from the neck.
How does brown glass protect the contents of the bottle?
Brown glass transmits less light than clear glass, thereby slowing the oxidation of oils and the degradation of sensitive components. Vegetable oils, essential oils and vitamins thus retain their scent and efficacy for longer. Protection is not complete, so store filled bottles away from direct sunlight.
