Product description

The amber glass medicine bottle, type B, tall, 10 ml, with black and gold pump is a ready-made combination of packaging and closure for serums, facial oils and light emulsions in a small pack. The 10 ml volume suits products applied by the drop or with a single press: eye serum, cuticle oil, concentrated serum with active ingredients, a trial size of a new product or a travel pack. Amber glass reduces light transmission and helps protect light-sensitive ingredients, such as vitamin C, retinol or unrefined vegetable oils. The black and gold glossy pump with a clear overcap gives the pack the look of a finished product, so it also suits products intended for sale or gifting.

The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The medicine bottle on its own also has a certificate for direct food contact, while the pump does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. You will find the declarations of conformity for both components with the product.

How the set works

  • Amber glass – limits the light reaching the contents, which you will appreciate with oils and serums containing antioxidants or essential oils. The glass does not react with the filling and does not absorb fragrances or dyes from it.
  • Pump – dispenses the contents without opening the bottle and without touching the neck. The filling stays cleaner and the dose is the same with every press.
  • Clear overcap – protects the pump head from dust during storage and in a cosmetic bag, while showing the colour of the product on the head.
  • Type B medicine bottle, tall – a narrower and taller bottle that sits comfortably in the hand when dispensing.

What it is suitable for

The pump works well with liquid and slightly thicker products applied in a small amount. One press dispenses approximately 0.3 ml, which is enough for one application of facial serum or of oil around the eye area. This set is therefore particularly suitable for:

  • facial serums, both water-based and oil-based, including serums with glycerine or hyaluronic acid at lower viscosity,
  • facial, nail and moustache oils, and lash and brow oils,
  • light fluids and liquid emulsions that the pump can dispense,
  • concentrates of active ingredients applied to specific spots,
  • samples and travel sizes of your own products.

The pump will not dispense thick creams, butters and balms. For such textures, we recommend a jar or a bottle with a different closure. Thin water-based solutions, such as toners, are in turn easier to apply with a sprayer or a dropper.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the medicine bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the pump tube, which is immersed in the filling, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, part of the contents is pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on, and the closure may not seal properly.

The pump tube is supplied longer than the height of the medicine bottle. Before the first filling, shorten it with sharp scissors so that its end reaches roughly to the bottom of the bottle but does not bend. A tube that is too long will kink and the pump will not draw.

Good to know

Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle, disinfecting it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leaving it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water or ethanol and leave it to drain. After filling and screwing on the pump, press it several times until the tube and head fill and the contents start to come out.

The plastic parts of the pump are made of polypropylene. With concentrated essential oils, anhydrous products with a high proportion of solvents or formulations with a low pH, we recommend testing the behaviour of the pump on a single unit before a larger production run. Do not pour the hot phase into the medicine bottle straight from the beaker; let the product cool down first.

The set can be used repeatedly. Wash, disinfect and dry the medicine bottle, rinse the pump and check that the tube is not blocked by dried filling. Residues of oils oxidise over time and smell unpleasant, so cleaning is easier right after the contents have been used up.

Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters of the medicine bottle, and other ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Glass belongs in the glass recycling bin. The pump is made of plastic and aluminium; before recycling, separate it from the bottle and dispose of each part according to its material.

Only the glass medicine bottle itself has a food-contact certificate. The pump does not, so do not use the set for edible oils, syrups or other foods. It is intended for cosmetics.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml amber glass medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass limits the transmission of light to the contents and so slows the changes that light causes. It is not a complete barrier, so store products with vitamin C, retinol or unrefined oils out of direct sunlight anyway. For serums and oils with antioxidants or essential oils, amber glass is a better choice than clear glass.
How much does the pump dispense with one press?
Approximately 0.3 ml per full press. The actual amount depends on the viscosity of the filling. Thicker serums and oils come out more slowly and in smaller doses, while thin solutions may come out in a larger amount. When using it for the first time, press the pump several times without product until the tube fills.
Is the glass medicine bottle with pump suitable for an oil serum?
Yes, facial and nail oils are among the most common fillings for this set. Amber glass protects the oil from light and the pump dispenses a small amount that is enough for one application, without opening the bottle. With oils containing a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend testing the behaviour of the pump on one piece beforehand.
Why is the 10 ml medicine bottle not filled to the brim?
Because more than the nominal 10 ml fits in it up to the brim, and this space is a reserve for the pump tube and the expansion of the contents. If it is filled to the brim, the screwed-on pump pushes part of the contents out and may stop sealing. It is therefore filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml; you will find the total volume to the brim in the parameters.
Can the set with pump be washed and used again?
Yes, both the medicine bottle and the pump can be cleaned and refilled. Wash the glass, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave it to dry. Rinse the pump with water or ethanol, pump clean liquid through it and leave it to drain. Check the tube for dried residues of the previous filling.
Can I fill this medicine bottle with edible oils or syrups?
No, the set with pump is not intended for food. Only the glass medicine bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the plastic pump does not. The whole combination is declared suitable for cosmetics, that is, serums, oils and light emulsions for the skin.
