Product description

The amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump, 10 ml, is packaging for small quantities of liquid products that are dispensed in drops or small doses: facial serums, oil serums, cuticle treatment oils or hair elixirs. Amber PET dampens light and helps protect contents that are sensitive to sunlight, for example oils and serums with antioxidants. The pump delivers the same dose with every press, so the contents do not need to be poured or scooped.

The bottle is lightweight and unbreakable, so it is also suitable for travel packaging or for samples that you send to customers. The glossy black and gold pump with a clear overcap gives even a small pack a finished look.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial and oil serums – thin to medium-thick liquids that the pump draws up and measures out in small doses.
  • Treatment oils – for nails, lips, eyebrows or hair ends, where you work with just a few drops.
  • Samples and travel packs – small volume and unbreakable material.

Bottle and pump together

The pump simply screws onto the neck with the 18/415 neck finish, and the set is matched. One press releases approximately 0.3 ml, which corresponds to one dose of facial serum or a few drops of oil. The clear overcap protects the pump head from dust and from accidental pressing during transport.

The pump is made of polypropylene and aluminium, and the bottle of PET. Both components are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The declaration of conformity for each component is provided with the product.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not have one, so the set is not recommended for homemade oils, syrups or infusions.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume up to the neck is larger; the difference is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, part of the contents is pushed out when the pump is screwed on and the neck becomes sticky.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. For the pump, it is enough to pump ethanol through it several times and let it dry; do not soak the dip tube in hot water.

After screwing on the pump, press the head several times without product until the dip tube fills. The first doses are often smaller and contain air; only then does the pump dispense evenly.

Good to know

  • Thickness of the contents – the pump is built for liquids that can be drawn up through the dip tube. Thick creams, gels with high viscosity or products with particles will clog it or will not be drawn up.
  • Essential oils and solvents – PET has no problem with common cosmetic oils and aqueous solutions. For undiluted essential oils, concentrated fragrance compositions or products with a higher proportion of alcohol, we recommend a trial filling and checking the bottle and the pump seal after several weeks.
  • Heat – do not fill the bottle with hot contents, as PET deforms at higher temperatures. Let the mixture cool to room temperature and keep filled bottles out of direct sunlight.
  • Reuse – once empty, the bottle can be washed and refilled. Rinse the pump and pump it until dry, otherwise residues of the previous contents will remain in the dip tube.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs with plastics as PET; the pump is a combination of polypropylene and aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations of packaging with a closure can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 10 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump suitable for an oil serum?
Yes, an oil serum is a typical use for this set. Vegetable oils and their blends have a viscosity that the dip tube of the pump can draw up, and amber PET protects oils from light. For blends with a high proportion of undiluted essential oils, we recommend checking the behaviour of the packaging with a trial filling.
Does the amber plastic bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of PET dampens the light that reaches the contents. For serums with vitamin C or retinol, or for oils prone to oxidation, an amber bottle is more suitable than a clear one. However, it does not provide complete protection from light, so do not leave filled bottles in direct sunlight.
Why is the plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml because the dip tube and the body of the pump are inserted through the neck and take up part of the space. The difference up to the brim is a reserve for the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it is overfilled, the contents overflow when the pump is screwed on and the neck stays sticky.
Can the plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump be washed and used again?
Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be cleaned and refilled once empty. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. Rinse the pump and pump it until clean liquid comes out, then let it dry. Do not expose the dip tube to hot water.
Is the bottle and pump set also suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Only the amber PET bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not have such a certificate. For homemade oils or herbal infusions, you therefore need to choose a bottle with a closure that is also approved for food contact.
What contents can the pump of the 10 ml pharmaceutical bottle not dispense?
Thick creams, firm gels and products with undissolved particles. The pump works by drawing liquid up through a dip tube, so it needs a liquid that flows freely. With a thicker serum, the dose becomes smaller or the pump draws up air. A trial filling is the best way to show whether it is suitable for your specific formulation.
