Product description

An amber PET medicine bottle with a volume of 115 ml and a pump with a glossy black and gold head form a single set into which you only need to pour the finished product. It is suitable for serums, face and hair oils, light emulsions, lotions and other liquid products that are dispensed in small amounts without tilting the bottle. The amber colour of the plastic reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so light-sensitive products can also be filled into this medicine bottle. The clear overcap of the pump covers the head while still letting you see its black and gold finish.

What the set includes

  • Amber medicine bottle, 115 ml – a PET bottle with an 18 mm thread. The plastic is light and does not break when dropped, which you will appreciate when shipping products by post or selling at markets.
  • Plastic pump 18/415 – a PP pump with a glossy aluminium shell in black and gold. The dip tube reaches the bottom of the bottle, and the clear overcap protects the head from dust and accidental pressing during transport.

How to use the set

One press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.3 ml. This amount suits serums and concentrated oils, which are dispensed in drops, while with light emulsions and lotions you simply press several times. After filling and screwing on the pump, press it several times to prime it until the dip tube fills and the head starts dispensing evenly.

The consistency of the contents determines how comfortable the dispensing is. Liquid and medium-thick products pass through without problems. Thick creams, butters or products with scrub particles may block the head or be difficult to dispense. For such contents, we recommend filling one bottle as a test and checking how the product behaves after a few days.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave it to dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump and let it drain. Residual water in the dip tube would otherwise get into the product.

Nominal and total volume

The figure of 115 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the medicine bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The total volume of the bottle up to the rim of the neck is higher. The difference forms a reserve that is taken up by the submerged dip tube of the pump once it is screwed on. For this reason, fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you filled it up to the neck, the dip tube would push part of the contents out and the pump could not be tightened.

Good to know

  • Contact with cosmetics – both the bottle and the pump are declared as suitable for use with cosmetic products, and the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. You will find the declarations of conformity for both components with the product.
  • Contact with food – only the amber medicine bottle has a certificate for direct food contact on its own. The pump does not have one, so the set is not intended for food use.
  • Reuse – you can wash the medicine bottle and the pump after emptying and use them again. Rinse the dip tube and the head with warm water and a small amount of surfactant and leave them to dry, otherwise residues of the old product will spoil the new contents.
  • Other closures – other closures with the same neck type from the Handymade range can also be fitted to a medicine bottle with an 18 mm thread. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – take the set apart before disposal. The bottle is made of PET, and the pump combines PP and aluminium.

Do not expose PET to aggressive chemicals. For contents with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents or strong alcohol solutions, first check the compatibility of the material on one bottle and watch whether the wall turns cloudy or softens.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 115 ml amber plastic medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the amount of light reaching the contents and slows down the changes that light triggers in an oil or serum. It does not provide complete protection, so filled bottles should be stored out of direct sunlight. For contents that light does not harm, the amber colour plays more of an aesthetic role and matches the black and gold pump.
Can the pump on the 115 ml medicine bottle be used for a thick cream?
No, the pump is intended for liquid and medium-thick products. One press dispenses approximately 0.3 ml, which corresponds to the dispensing of serums, oils and light emulsions. Thick creams, butters and products with solid particles block the head or are dispensed unevenly. For such contents, a jar or a pump with a wider passage is more suitable.
Why is the 115 ml medicine bottle with a pump not filled to the brim?
The medicine bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 115 ml because there must be room above the liquid level for the dip tube of the pump. After screwing on, the dip tube is submerged in the bottle and pushes the liquid level up. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, the product overflows and the thread cannot be tightened. Filling to the nominal volume solves this problem.
Is the 115 ml medicine bottle set with a pump suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not intended for food contact. Only the amber 115 ml medicine bottle has a certificate for direct food contact on its own, while the pump does not have such a declaration. If you want to use the bottle for oil or syrup, combine it with a closure that has its own food certificate. With the pump, the set is intended for cosmetics.
Can the 115 ml medicine bottle with a pump be filled with a serum containing alcohol or essential oils?
At usual cosmetic concentrations, yes. PET is not suitable for contents with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents or concentrated alcohol, which can make the plastic cloudy or soften it. Before producing a larger batch, we therefore recommend filling one bottle as a test and checking the wall and the pump after a few weeks.
