Product description
A glass bottle with a black cap and dropper is a complete set for dispensing liquid preparations drop by drop. It is particularly suitable for facial serums, facial and body oils, oil blends with essential oils, tinctures and concentrates, where a precise number of drops needs to be measured out without spilling the contents.
The matte milk glass diffuses direct light and gives the preparation a uniform, calm appearance. When held up to the light, the fill level remains visible. Glass is chemically stable, does not absorb fragrances or release them into the contents, making it suitable even for preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils. The nominal volume of 50 ml corresponds to a typical size of serum or oil for several weeks of use.
What the set contains and how it works
The set consists of three parts: a glass bottle with a threaded neck, a dropper pressed into the neck and a black screw cap. After filling, the dropper is pressed into the bottle neck and the cap is screwed on over it. When in use, the cap is unscrewed and the bottle is tilted, allowing the preparation to flow out drop by drop through the narrow opening of the dropper. This is not a closure with a bulb and glass tube, but a built-in dropper that remains in the neck throughout the entire lifespan of the packaging.
This method of dispensing has practical advantages. Nothing that has touched the skin is returned to the bottle, the contents are not drawn back in, and when the bottle is turned upside down nothing flows out in one stream. The dropper also reduces contact of the contents with air at each opening.
For which preparations is it suitable
- Oil-based facial serums – drop dispensing allows a small amount to be applied directly to the skin or into the palm.
- Blends of carrier oils with essential oils – glass is resistant to essential oils and the matte surface diffuses light.
- Tinctures and alcohol-based extracts – thin liquids flow through the dropper easily; for very thin contents we recommend checking the dripping speed.
- Oil concentrates and active substances in oil – where an exact number of drops matters.
- Beard oil, hair oil serums, cuticle oil – preparations that are applied to specific spots.
The set is less suitable for thick preparations such as creams, gels and thick emulsions, which will not flow through the narrow dropper opening. It is also not suitable for water-based sprays and tonics that are applied with an atomiser.
Nominal and total volume
For packaging, a distinction is made between the nominal volume and the total volume to the brim. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is designed for normal filling. The total volume is the physical internal space up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them is the allowance for the inserted dropper and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim; otherwise, part of the contents would be pushed out when the dropper is pressed into the neck.
Before filling an entire batch, fill one test bottle, press in the dropper, screw on the cap and turn it upside down for a few hours. This allows you to check the seal of the set and the dripping speed with your specific formulation.
What is good to know
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not intended for food use, so we do not recommend it for homemade oils, syrups or infusions intended for consumption.
Before first filling, it is advisable to wash the bottle, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow it to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based preparation can promote the growth of microorganisms, especially if the preparation does not contain a preservative. The dropper and cap simply need to be disinfected and left to air dry.
Glass can withstand cold filling and slightly warmed oil blends, but it is not designed for sudden temperature changes. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle. The dropper is made of polypropylene and the cap of polyethylene, both materials are generally resistant to vegetable and essential oils. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or solvents, we recommend checking in advance whether the plastic parts soften over time and whether the fragrance of the preparation is affected.
The bottle is suitable for repeated use. After emptying, the dropper is removed from the neck, all parts are washed, disinfected and dried. After repeated removal, the dropper may loosen; when refilling, therefore check that it holds firmly in the neck.
The matte surface of the glass diffuses light, but does not replace dark glass. For preparations with very sensitive ingredients, such as unrefined oils prone to oxidation or certain vitamins, store the bottles away from direct sunlight or opt for amber glass.
The matte surface of the glass works consistently with both paper and transparent labels. With a transparent label, however, bear in mind that it will not be completely invisible on matte glass.
Closures with the same type of neck and other ready-made combinations of container and closure can be found in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.
At the end of its useful life, glass belongs in the sorted glass collection; the dropper and cap are sorted as plastic.
