Product description

A glass bottle with an aluminium cap, 50 ml, is a ready-made set for filling smaller volumes of cosmetics – facial and body oils, serums, tonics, hydrolats or samples of your own products. Both the bottle and the cap share the same thread type, so the set only needs to be washed, filled and closed.

The bottle is made of glass with a transparent frosted (milky) finish that diffuses light while still allowing the colour and level of the contents to show through. Glass does not react with oils, essential oils or alcohol-based solutions and does not absorb scents. The aluminium cap in silver has an inner sealing insert that separates the contents from the metal and ensures a tight closure. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

Why choose this set

  • Glass with no interaction with contents – oils, essential oils, alcoholic tinctures and aqueous tonics can be filled without concern that the packaging will alter the scent or composition of the contents.
  • Frosted glass reduces light exposure – compared to clear glass, it exposes the contents to direct light less; however, for substances that are highly sensitive to light, dark (brown or blue) glass is more suitable.
  • Tight metal closure – the cap with its insert keeps the contents secure even when carried in a bag or when sending samples.
  • Practical 50 ml volume – suitable for leave-on products used gradually as well as for test batches of new formulations.
  • 18 mm neck – the narrow neck allows the contents to be poured drop by drop or in a thin stream and reduces evaporation of volatile components.

Volume and filling

Packaging distinguishes between nominal volume and total brim-full volume. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for during normal filling. The total brim-full volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference creates a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when temperature changes, which is why the bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The exact value of the total volume is listed in the product parameters.

Mixtures with a high proportion of essential oils and alcoholic tinctures expand more noticeably at warm temperatures than aqueous solutions. When filling, leave some free space in the neck and tighten the cap by hand rather than by force – the insert seals even with a gentle tightening.

What the set is suitable for

Thanks to the glass and the tight cap, the set is particularly suitable for anhydrous products: facial, hair and nail oils, oil serums, massage and body oils, perfumed oils and blends with essential oils. It also works well for alcohol-based preparations such as tinctures or toners containing alcohol, which could stress certain plastics.

Aqueous products – tonics, hydrolats, aqueous serums – can also be filled into the bottle, but preservation must be taken into account for these. For creams and thick emulsions, the narrow neck is not practical; jars or bottles with a wider neck are more suitable for these.

The cap is designed for storage and transport; dispensing is done by tilting the bottle. If you need more precise dosing, closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations with a dropper or spray pump are available in the Handymade range. With custom combinations, we recommend verifying the seal and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash both the bottle and the cap, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based product promotes microbial growth.
  • Reuse – glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection. With the cap, check the condition of the sealing insert; if it is deformed or has absorbed the scent of the previous contents, replace the closure.
  • Glass and heat – do not fill the bottle with hot contents and do not expose it to sudden temperature changes, as it may crack. Fill blends once they have cooled to room temperature.
  • Aluminium and moisture – dry the cap after washing; prolonged moisture on a metal surface is undesirable.
  • Labelling – before applying a self-adhesive label, degrease the glass surface.
  • Recycling – the bottle goes with glass, the aluminium cap with metals; separate the set before disposal.

The set is intended for cosmetics. Neither the bottle nor the cap has food-contact certification, so do not use it for food-grade oils, syrups or herbal infusions intended for consumption.

Frequently asked questions

Does frosted glass protect the contents from light?
Partially. The frosted (milky) surface diffuses light and reduces its direct impact on the contents, but it is not equivalent to dark glass. For oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids or for active ingredients that are highly sensitive to light, we recommend brown or blue glass, or storage in the dark.
Is the glass bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
Yes. Glass does not react with either essential oils or alcohol, and the cap has a sealing insert that separates the contents from the metal. With concentrated essential oil blends, we recommend checking the seal after a few days and replacing the cap with a worn insert upon reuse.
How much does a 50 ml glass bottle actually hold?
The bottle is designed for 50 ml of contents; physically, slightly more fits up to the brim. This difference is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents at warm temperatures, which is why only the nominal volume is filled. The exact total volume value is stated in the product parameters.
How to prepare a glass bottle before filling cosmetics?
Wash, disinfect and allow to dry completely. Wash both the bottle and the cap with warm water and a mild detergent, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to air dry upside down. Fill only when the inside is completely dry, otherwise water may enter the anhydrous product.
Can a dropper or spray pump be used on a bottle with an 18 mm neck instead of the cap?
Yes, provided the closure has the same neck type as stated in the bottle parameters. Ready-made combinations of the bottle with a dropper or spray pump are available in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, verify the seal and whether the dispensing element can handle the viscosity and composition of your formulation.
Is the glass bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for food-grade oils or syrups?
No. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, but neither the bottle nor the cap has food-contact certification. For homemade oils, syrups or infusions intended for consumption, choose packaging with food-grade suitability stated in the parameters.
