Product description
A glass bottle with a black aluminium cap protects a small amount of cosmetics from light. The glossy black glass completely hides the contents, so this 15 ml bottle is used for face and hair serums, oil blends, perfume oils or samples of your own formulations. The aluminium cap with a foam polyethylene (EPE) liner screws onto the neck with an 18/410 neck finish and seals the bottle.
The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the glass bottle alone; the cap does not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The shape of the bottle is referred to as a medicine bottle.
What it is suitable for
- Oil serums and face oils – dark glass slows down changes in light-sensitive oils, and the small volume is used up before the contents age.
- Perfume and massage oil blends – glass does not react with fragrance components, and the cap seals the contents when you carry the bottle.
- Samples and test batches – the small volume is suitable for trying out a formulation or for customer samples.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume of the bottle up to the top of the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise the contents will be pushed into the thread when you close it and the cap will not seal.
Fill thicker oils and serums using a small funnel or a syringe. The narrow 18 mm neck is easily soiled when you pour straight from a beaker, and residue in the thread then prevents the cap from being tightened.
Preparation and reuse
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Moisture in the packaging could spoil anhydrous and oil-based contents. The glass bottle can be reused after washing and disinfection. Before reusing the cap, check that the liner is not deformed or soaked with the previous contents.
Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature. Do not pour a hot oil phase into a cold bottle; let the contents cool down before filling.
Tighten the cap by hand, without tools. Aluminium is soft and the liner works even with light tightening. If you tighten it too much, the thread will be damaged and the packaging will start to leak.
Good to know
You cannot see the level through black glass, so monitor the amount of contents by weight or mark the bottle with the filling date. You will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of packaging and closure in the Handymade range. If you combine them yourself, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation. With contents that have a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, check how the cap liner behaves with that particular product; the glass itself has no problem with them.
Put the empty glass bottle into glass recycling; the aluminium cap with the polyethylene liner is sorted as metal.
