Product description

The black glossy glass bottle with a volume of 10 ml and a simple black cap is designed for filling small quantities of cosmetics that need protection from light. The dark glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents, so it is suitable for facial oils, oil serums, essential oil blends and fragrance oils, that is, for fillings that lose stability or scent when exposed to light. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

The small volume suits samples, testers, travel packs and blends with more expensive ingredients that are used up within a few weeks. The medicine-bottle shape with a narrower neck makes it easy to dispense by tilting the bottle, without any additional closure.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial and hair oils – glass does not react with the oil phase, and the dark packaging slows the oxidation of light-sensitive oils.
  • Oil serums and concentrates – 10 ml is enough for normal use when applied by the drop.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance oils – glass is resistant to aromatic substances. We recommend checking how the cap behaves with a concentrated blend.
  • Samples and testers – the same packaging for the whole series and a uniform black look that does not reveal the contents.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – in smaller amounts for personal use. With alcohol-based contents, check that the screwed-on cap seals tightly.

Cap and dispensing

The polypropylene cap with a foam polyethylene (EPE) liner screws onto the 18/410 neck finish. The contents are dispensed by tilting the bottle, which is sufficient for oils and liquids applied to the palm or fingers. For more precise dispensing of thicker or valuable blends, a dropper or another closure with the same neck type will do the job. You can find closures with the same thread as well as ready-made bottle + closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

For blends with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, test in advance how the cap liner reacts to them. Fill one bottle, leave it screwed shut for several days, and check whether the liner has softened and whether the closure still seals.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them leaves room for the cap or dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle pushes part of the contents into the thread when the cap is screwed on, and the cap then does not sit properly.

Good to know

  • Preparation before the first filling – wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in oil-based contents shortens their shelf life.
  • Filling temperature – fill the glass with contents that have cooled down. If cold glass is suddenly heated by a hot filling, it may crack.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the glass can be used again. The cap liner may retain the odour of the previous fragrance blend, so we recommend a new cap when you change the contents.
  • The level is not visible – you cannot see the fill level through black glass. Label the contents and the filling date, and check the quantity by weighing during production.
  • Recycling – once separated, the bottle belongs in glass and the cap in plastic.

The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the glass bottle on its own. The set with this plastic cap is intended for cosmetics as a whole, and we do not recommend it for food.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the dark black glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents and slows the changes that light causes in oils, essential oils and fragrance blends. However, protection from light does not replace protection from heat and air. Store the bottle in a cool place and screw the cap on tightly after each use to limit air reaching the oil-based contents.
How much content actually fits into the 10 ml glass bottle?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, not to the brim. The brimful volume is larger, and the difference leaves room for the cap, any dropper and the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill it to the brim, part of the filling is pushed into the thread when the cap is screwed on, and the closure will not seal.
Is the 10 ml glass bottle with a black cap suitable for food?
Not as a set. The declaration of suitability for direct contact with food applies to the glass bottle on its own, while the plastic cap is declared only for contact with cosmetics. The bottle + cap set is therefore intended for cosmetic products such as oils, oil serums or fragrance blends.
Can the 10 ml black glass bottle be reused?
Yes, once empty, the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, left to dry and filled again. The cap with its liner is harder to clean and may retain the odour of the previous contents, especially after essential oils. When you change the filling, we recommend replacing the cap with a new one.
Is the 10 ml glass bottle suitable for essential oils and alcohol tinctures?
The glass bottle itself is suitable, as glass is resistant to essential oils, alcohol and oil blends. The polypropylene cap has a foam polyethylene liner, and we recommend checking in advance, in a filled bottle, how it behaves with concentrated essential oils or solvents. With ordinary facial and fragrance oils, such a check is not required.
What closure fits the 10 ml glass bottle with an 18/410 neck finish?
Any closure with an 18/410 neck finish fits the bottle, for example a dropper or another type of cap with the same neck. Closures as well as ready-made bottle + closure combinations are available in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the seal and the dispensing with your specific formulation, because the viscosity of the filling affects how the closure dispenses and seals.
