Product description

The black glass bottle with a capacity of 100 ml and a black cap is packaging for contents that should not be exposed to light. Opaque black glass protects face and body oils, serums with light-sensitive active ingredients, blends with essential oils, massage oils and alcohol-based toners. The medicine bottle shape with a narrow neck makes it possible to pour out the contents even in small amounts. The glossy black surface of the glass and the equally black cap look like a single piece.

The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product. Only the glass bottle on its own is certified for direct contact with food. The cap is not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Oils and oil serums – black glass keeps light away from the contents, which helps slow down the oxidation of vegetable oils and of blends with vitamins or essential oils.
  • Toners and alcohol-based preparations – glass does not react with alcohol or with water-based blends, and the contents pour straight from the narrow neck.
  • Hair and body oils – the medicine bottle sits well in the hand, and you can pour the oil into your palm without an additional pump.
  • Retail packaging – the uniform black colour of both the glass and the cap looks neat even without additional decoration.

Volume and filling

Nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Brimful capacity, that is, the physical volume up to the neck, is slightly larger and you can find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values forms a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill the bottle up to the nominal volume and never to the brim, otherwise part of the contents will be pushed out or will leak into the thread when the cap is screwed on.

Black glass does not let you check the level from the outside. When filling several bottles at once, a measuring cup or filling on a scale is a good way to give every bottle the same amount of contents.

Cap and closing

The black PP cap with an EPE liner screws onto the 18/410 neck finish. The liner sits against the rim of the neck and seals the contents against leaking during storage and transport. The cap has no dispensing opening. The contents pour straight from the narrow neck of the medicine bottle, which is enough for pouring oils into your palm or for decanting smaller amounts.

If you need to dispense drop by drop or as a spray, the Handymade range includes closures with the same neck type as well as ready-made bottle and closure sets. When you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Residual water in the bottle would introduce moisture into an anhydrous oil and, without a preservative, also a risk of microbial growth. Treat the cap, including the liner, in the same way.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Let the hot oil phase cool before filling, at least to a temperature at which the bottle can be held in the hand without any problem. Do not pour hot contents into cold glass.

Concentrated essential oils and some solvents may, over time, affect the plastic parts of the closure. For blends with a high proportion of essential oils, we recommend checking the tightness and the condition of the liner after several weeks.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. Replace the cap if the liner has become deformed or has stopped sealing. Before disposal, separate the glass from the plastic cap, as each belongs in a different collection container.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black glass is opaque and does not let light through to the contents. This makes it suitable for vegetable oils, serums with vitamins and blends with essential oils, which oxidise faster in light and lose their scent. However, you cannot see the level or the colour of the contents from the outside, so a measuring cup or a scale will help when filling.
How much does the 100 ml bottle actually hold?
The bottle is designed to be filled up to the nominal volume of 100 ml. Physically it holds slightly more up to the brim, and the exact value is given in the parameters. The difference serves as a reserve for the closure and for the expansion of the contents during warmer storage, so the bottle is never filled to the brim.
Is the set with the black cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the glass bottle on its own is certified for direct contact with food, and the black plastic cap is not. The set of bottle and cap is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products and is intended for this use.
Can the bottle with the black cap be used for toners containing alcohol?
Yes, glass does not react with alcohol or with water-based blends, so the bottle is suitable for alcohol-based toners, tinctures and water-based preparations. If the toner has a higher content of essential oils, we recommend checking the tightness of the cap and the condition of the liner after some time.
How do I prepare the bottle before filling, and can it be reused?
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely, and treat the cap in the same way. Once the contents are used up, the bottle can be cleaned in the same way and refilled. Replace the cap when the liner stops sealing or becomes deformed.
What other closures fit this bottle?
Any closure with the 18/410 neck type given in the parameters fits the bottle. The Handymade range includes various closures for this neck as well as ready-made sets of bottle and closure. When you make your own combination, check the tightness and the behaviour of the closure with your specific contents, especially with oils and blends containing essential oils.
