Product description

A set of a black glossy glass bottle, 30 ml, and a black plastic cap with an 18/410 neck finish only needs to be washed, filled and screwed on. The opaque black glass protects the contents from light throughout use, which you will appreciate with oil serums, facial oils, alcohol tinctures or fragrance compositions. The glossy surface also hides the colour of the product inside, so the set is often chosen for products where the packaging should look uniform regardless of the contents.

The cap is solid, without a dispensing opening. The contents are poured or scooped out of the bottle, which suits products dispensed in larger amounts or decanted into another container: massage and body oils in smaller packs, samples of cream and oil products, stock bottles for your own fragrance composition blends, tinctures and infusions. The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Light protection – the black opaque glass does not let light reach the contents, which is important for light-sensitive vegetable and essential oils, tinctures and perfume blends.
  • 30 ml volume – corresponds to a common pack of a facial or oil serum, a travel size of body oil or a larger sample.
  • Glass as the material – it does not react with oils, alcohol or water-based formulations and does not absorb the scent of previous contents. After thorough washing, the bottle can be used again.
  • Screw cap – a cap made of PP with an EPE liner that sits on the neck and seals the bottle. It suits products that are not dispensed by the drop.

Filling and volume

The nominal volume of 30 ml is the amount the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The total volume up to the brim is larger and serves as a reserve for the cap and for the slight expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled up to the nominal volume, not up to the neck. If it were filled to the brim, part of the contents would be pushed out when the cap is screwed on, and the cap liner would not seat correctly.

When filling hot (for example oil blends with ointments or waxes), let the mixture cool slightly before pouring and do not pour it into a cold bottle. A sudden temperature difference is not good for glass, and hot contents will shrink further once they solidify, so the level will drop below the nominal mark.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the neck or under the cap liner would get into an anhydrous product and could spoil it.

The glass itself withstands contact with alcohol tinctures, essential oils and fragrance compositions. The cap liner is made of plastic. With concentrated essential oils or blends with a high proportion of solvents, we recommend checking after a few weeks whether the liner changes shape and whether the closure still seals. A seal check is recommended for every new formulation, especially before the product is shipped to a customer.

The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The cap does not have one, so the set as a whole is not approved for food and is intended for cosmetic products.

Other closures with the same thread type also fit the 18/410 neck finish. You will find ready-made bottle and closure combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the seal, the dispensing and how the packaging behaves with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle, 30 ml, protect the contents from light?
Yes, the black opaque glass does not let light through, so the contents are protected from it throughout use. It is therefore suitable for vegetable and essential oils, tinctures and fragrance compositions, which are spoiled by light. However, the glass does not protect against heat, so do not leave the bottle in the sun or next to a radiator.
To what level is a glass bottle with a nominal volume of 30 ml filled?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not up to the brim. The total volume up to the brim is larger and serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it were filled up to the neck, part of the contents would be pushed out when the cap is screwed on and the cap would not seal.
Can the set of a black glass bottle with a black cap be used for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for direct food contact. The glass bottle on its own has a food-contact certificate, but the black plastic cap does not. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, that is, for oils, serums, tinctures and similar cosmetic products. For homemade oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.
Is the black glass bottle with a cap suitable for essential oils and alcohol tinctures?
Yes, the glass is: it does not react with alcohol or essential oils and does not absorb scent. The cap liner is plastic (EPE), and with undiluted essential oils or blends with a high proportion of solvents we recommend checking after a few weeks whether the liner changes shape and whether the closure still seals. This is not usually a problem with common oil serums and tinctures, but testing it in your specific formulation is advisable.
How do I prepare a glass bottle before the first filling, and can it be reused?
Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. The glass can be reused after thorough washing, as it does not absorb scent or colour from the previous contents. When reusing, check the cap liner, which may wear out with frequent opening and closing. Replace a worn cap with a new one with the same 18/410 neck finish.
